Apartment overview - owner's description

Entering through the front door there are stairs up to the first floor. All on one level are 1 double and 1 twin bedrooms, a shower room and large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner plus separate reading area. A door from this level onto a private south facing area with furniture.
Callan has excellent bus and road links to major towns and airports so is an excellent base from which to easily explore this lovely part of Ireland.

Historic Callan is one of Kilkenny's largest towns and was founded by William the Marshall in 1207. Callan has a good choice of traditional pubs, shops including supermarket and restaurants as well as good road and bus links to other main towns and cities. Medieval Kilkenny city is a mere 10-15 minute drive away. In 2005 Neil Jordan's film 'Breakfast in Pluto' starring Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy was filmed here and in 2007 Callan celebrated its 800th year! There are many places of interest in the immediate vicinity including The Moat just off Bridge street, one of Ireland's best preserved Motte-and-baileys, The Workhouse in Prologue, Callan and Callan Augustinian Priory, to name but a few. Callan is the birthplace of some famous people including Edmund Rice founder of Christian Brothers (whose childhood home is still in place), poet in exile John Locke (1847), James Hoban (who designed the White House), Irish painter Tony O'Malley.

We had a lovely time exploring the area around the apartment and enjoyed walking the country lanes around Callan. The apartment met our needs perfectly.

The flat was very tidy & had everything you'd need to make your stay very comfortable. Didn't get to meet the owner because of car trouble but he made arrangements for the key & phoned us twice to check we were ok. Very nice flat with lovely quiet bedrooms at the back. Kitchen had plenty of pots & essentials for cooking & a washing machine if you're staying a bit longer. From the twin room you have access to a back yard with patio set. The electric meter was in this room also, we put €15 on the card & used about 10 of it over the 2 1/2 days but it was cold so the heating was on quite a bit & there were 4 of us for showers every day. Garage with large shop directly opposite & an Aldi supermarket around the corner to the left. Turn right & right again with a short walk & you've got a chip shop & next door a chinese that does sit in or take away. The pub opposite serves food also then you've got The Steppes bar does pizza & has free WiFi. The staff in here were lovely, its at the top of the town opposite the Spar shop & cash machine. Plenty to do in & around Kilkenny, Dunmore caves is a must. All within easy driving distance. Had a great stay & Callan was a great base for us to explore. Would recommend a stay & we'll most definitely be back.

The flat is exactly as shown in the pictures with no surprises. The kitchen and bathroom were modern and clean and we were able to prepare meals and do laundry in the flat - which is exactly what we needed travelling with younger children. Callan is a great central location for site-seeing and has easy access to the motorways. Although situated on a busy street, the bedrooms are in the back of the flat and face onto a large back yard, making the flat very quiet for sleeping. There are three grocery stores in town, bank machines and a petrol station - so at the end of the day you have easy access to anything you might need to prepare for the next day. The flat is great value for the price and we would use the facility again. My only suggestions would be better cooking pots for the kitchen and a thicker more comfortable mattress for the double-bed room.

Many thanks for your nice comments. The holidaymakers prior to your stay had occupied both apartments and had done all their cooking in apartment 1 so what we hadn't realised is that they had moved a lot of the pots and pans from apartment 2. I must apologise for this and we have since divided them up equally and will get the cleaners to check the numbers before each arrival. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay however and hope to see you again sometime in the future.
