Villa overview - owner's description
Set within the secluded, luxurious Blue Karma resort, Villa Kiana is opulent, while cosy, dwelling in the well-heeled town of Seminyak offering an authentic Balinese retreat-style holiday. This home provides natural opulence within a majestic, tranquil setting. Infused with traditional touches, guests will enter a veritable oasis of fragrant and verdant seclusion where indoor and outdoor living fuse seamlessly.
Traditional Balinese buildings seek to harmonise with the environment: they are built almost entirely of organic materials, using bamboo, teak, coconut wood, thatch and stone - Balinese people are known for their artistry. The result is a centuries-old style of design that's heavily influenced by Bali's Hindu traditions, as well as ancient Javanese elements.
Set spaciously apart yet together, the “villa” is made up of a series of “joglos” (separate pavilions which are unique to the island.) The living spaces offer relaxed, “open plan” living, divided into large, sociable spaces and quiet corners for privacy and downtime. Constructed in natural tones, teak and stone - staying here is a sensory journey! Lovingly and expertly designed by its American artist-photographer-jeweller owner, every little extra touch of care has been provided.
Villa Kiana provides four bedrooms, with a choice of queen or twin beds, each with their sumptuous private bathroom which is semi-open air for a truly liberating bathing experience!
The enormous living space offers high ceilings in natural timber throughout, with wonderful ambient lighting, splashes of bright colour, large banquette style seating with local fabrics and ethnic style rugs; so warm and inviting after a day out exploring. The characteristic wicker chairs, teak structure and elements of stone are evident throughout; the sleek kitchenette and large veranda style spaces make this an ideal space for socialising in groups or as a family.
Meticulously finished, the spaces are both characterful and designed within the spirit of local craftsmanship; the owner's art and photography bring panache and style to the dwelling. The bedrooms are majestic - crisp, quality bedlinen and ample space, with wonderful draped curtains and stunning use of local materials make this a peaceful yet prestigious retreat from the bustling outdoor world.
Villa Kiana provides a mysterious and vibrant escape: for living truly “at one” with the rich nature that Bali is famous for, simply look no further.
Guests will enjoy the wonderful, ambient bathrooms, the private pool with large day beds, sun loungers and vivacious parasols in vibrant, local fabrics. The lawns are lush and green, rich with tropical vegetation and flowering plants, the scent of jasmine and palm trees making this a little corner of paradise!
The wider resort facilities mean that guests every need will be met; whether it be a class, a treatment, a yoga or meditation session or a candlelit chef-prepared meal, the staff on hand are happy to oblige within the spirit of Balinese hospitality. A television or DVD player can be provided at request. A mystical spot, the pool is designed in the shape of a cover leaf, overlooked by a goddess statue in lava stone - both contemporary elegance and Balinese spiritual heritage infuse this home, with its stunning views across the rice paddies.

Seminyak's splendid golden beach attracts a smart crowd, with a refined air of luxury, while the myriad of side streets offer great dining venues - among these is Bali's famous “eat street.”
At just a few steps from Petitenget beach lies one of Bali's major temples.
The temple at Petitenget offers a tranquil oasis behind the glitzy five-star appeal of Seminyak. Referred to by locals as “Pura Petitenget,” this centuries-old temple is a must-see during the traditional dance rehearsals held regularly by locals in a grand nearby pavilion. The red brick and sandstone architecture add to its ancient appeal. The impressive dragon staircase leads to the temple's vast courtyard, where a dozen shrines and small pavilions draped in traditional Balinese chequered cloths create a compelling sight.
Petitenget forms one of the island's Dang Kahyangan collections of sea temples that spiritually guard the island's perimeters, initiated by the legendary Hindu priest Dang Hyang Nirartha on his historical mission from neighbouring island Java in the sixteenth century.
