We spent 17 days here. It is a delightful, traditional, Kerala house in a very friendly village. The house is almost directly on the beach. Preman, the owner is a gem. A genuine, trustworthy and kind man. He is absolutely dedicated to ensuring a trouble-free and enjoyable experience for his guests. He met us at Trivandrum, having bought us some groceries, checked us in and showed us around. He also put us in touch with Raj, a great taxi driver who took us to the supermarket and the beer store. Preman came by most days to make sure we were happy. (we were) The house itself is very comfortable with good airconditioning in the front bedroom. The porch is great to hang out, listen to the ocean and enjoy a Kingfisher kept cold in the efficient fridge. The kitchen is basic but just fine for a salad lunch and toast and coffee although there are good burners if you feel more ambitious. Next door is an excellent restaurant so we didn't cook. The village centre and market is a good walk and friendly, and up the road are several small shops. Altogether Marielin Villa is ultra relaxing and excellent value. Preman has a tailor shop and I had some clothes made, for a very fair cost, that I am very happy with.

We stayed at this villa for one week in January, and thorougly enjoyed our stay. The beach here is very quiet and undeveloped, yet just a short drive to Kovolam. There are a few restaurants on the beach just steps away from the villa, and it's walking distance to the village if you want to buy food to cook in the kitchen. The villa was perfect for our family of four -- two large, nicely furnished rooms, each with its own bathroom. The deck is a beautiful place to sit and listen to the ocean. The wifi worked well. The owner was attentive to our needs, and arranged transportation to and from the train station. We would definitely recommend this place for a relaxing vacation.

We have just returned from our 7th visit to India! This was however our 1st time to kerala after going to Go a every year so we didnt know what to expect! To be on the safe side, we booked our 1st week in kerala and the 2nd in Goa. Although we still love Goa and had a great time there, we wished we had stayed longer in Kerala! Marielin villa was an amazing find. The location was stunning and it was excellent value for money. The owner Preman was a really lovely man. When we arrived (there were 4 of us-2 couples) he was there to greet us and had stocked the fridge with all the essentials we needed, including beer! He also arranged scooter hire for us so we were able to get around and explore. The location is idyllic. Nearby Kovalam was great to visit but it was so peaceful back at the villa, we were always glad to get back there. It had everything you need for a lovely relaxing week and Preman couldnt do enough for us, we really felt like we had made a true friend. He is also an excellent tailor and my friend and I had some traditional Indian outfits made by him! All in all, I would definitely recommend Marielin villa to anybody and really hope to be able to go back there again. Thank you Preman, we had a wonderful time.

This Villa was a very good find.
Good value for money and had all the basic necessities for our 6 night stay.
The pictures are very accurate and gives you the India feel lifestyle.
Preman the owner, was very good and as our air conditioning was not working he went out of his way to fix it over the christmas and new year period.
He was very welcoming and would always ask if we were ok, he would come and find us at breakfast at the restaurant next to us.
The villa was kept clean by Sandra the housekeeper, she worked hard and changed bed linen almost everyday.
We loved sitting outside on the balcony watching the world go by and wave crashing in the sea, it was just so relaxing, quiet and almost forgot you were in India.
We would go to the restaurant next door owned by Philip, we was a nice man to talk to and get to know what is around to do in the area. We ate there at most meal times, menu good, food good and chef is excellent.
Walked to the beaches down from our beach and was lovely.
We got a Taxi to the fishing village and walked around to the mosques and to light house beach Kovalam. It was facinating to see how the people live and history.
Kovalam beach is more commercialised and busy, we were glad to have been where the villa is.
I cannot say anything bad about this villa, it may need a revamp but it was what it is and it is India, it was great value and recommend to anyone thinking of renting, it was a great experience, and after travelling a lot the first week, it was nice to relax the second week

Marielin Villa is set in a lovely position amongst the coconut groves about 50 meters from the beautiful, sandy, quiet beach.Wonderful for paddling along the waters edge, but you need to be a strong confident swimmer to venture further into the sea.
The villa is spacious, with a large verandah,a great place to sit listening to the arabian ocean and watching the setting sun.The bedrooms are large with good clean shower rooms. The kichen is basic but adequate, ok for making drinks and a fabulous fresh fruit salad for breakfast, there is a large fridge but not particularly well equipped for cooking. However, the two small restaurants nearby offer all meals at great prices,so who wants to cook anyway?
Preman is a delightful man and pops in most days to make sure all is well.He cares for his guest and nothing is too much trouble.Preman will also advise on sightseeing trips with a very good driver.
Staying amid a real community gives a taste of what life is like here and a chance to meet and chat to some of the local characters going about their daily routines,but...if you prefer a more sanitised/tourist version of India, maybe you should stay in a hotel.

I stayed at this property for 3 weeks, the ownner Preman was amazing, what a friendly helpful guy. Anything you want to see or do just ask him. He visits most days to make sure you are ok, he arranged a mobile phone for us with an indian sim - it was so cheap to call the UK, i think we paid 1000rp (£12) and it lasted the whole time we was there. He also arranged a Moped for us (if your brave enough to drive their crazy roads). He filled the fridge with essentials for when we arrived (even a few bottles of Kingfisher) and he kept the place clean and changed our bed sheets regularly, the 2 seperate double bedrooms come with their own wash basins/vanity areas and shower-rooms. We took our own Hammocks and spent many evenings chilling on the balcony listening to the waves crashing. There are regular power cuts everywhere in kerala so take a hand torch with you, this didnt effect anything, if anything it added to the ambiance of our evenings. I would recommend this house to anyone.
Thanks preman for looking after us x
