About

My name is Shona, and I live in Edinburgh. I have owned property in Marrakech since 2007, and I spend as much of my time there as I can. Riad Shaden is managed on a day to day basis by Said and Mohamed, who speak English and French. They are assisted by Saadia and Sanaa, who cook and clean, and generally look after our guests. Riad Shaden is our second guest house in Marrakech, and we are happy to have many guests who return to us year after year, having enjoyed their stay with us so much. We are happy to answer any questions about our riad or about Marrakech in general, either before or after a booking is confirmed, and we look forward to welcoming you to our riad.

Comfortable stay we were well looked after by Mohammed and Staff. Advantage of being able to eat in. The location is away from the touristic area of the Medina and therefore required 15 mins walk through the narrow alleyways which at times was a bit stressful. The Riads Internet is not up to much and was often down.

We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Our location is in a residential area of the medina, and as you say a 15 minute walk to the square which most of our guests really enjoy as it gives them an opportunity to see the real Marrakech. It's completely safe, and all part of the fun. Regarding the wifi, in common with all riads in Marrakech, we do have issues at times due to the construction of the building, thick walls etc but we do our best to ensure the best level of coverage possible.

We had an amazing time, they helped us arrange tours to Essaquira and Orika valley which I would recommend. Easy to walk form the Riad to the main square (15mins) once you get your bearings and get used to the lively atmosphere the old town provides. The staff at the Riad are super nice and helpful all you had to do was ask.

Great place if you want to be in the heart of the old town, very quite when you are in the Riad and the guys (Youssef and Saheed) were so helpful and accommodating, easy to talk to and made the stay pleasant.

Fantastic hospitality, staffs great, very very helpful, Yusuf, Saeed & ladies, all worked hard to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Food was great, all nicely cooked and prepared. Excursions were sorted in no time, all hard working staff, thank you is not enough for these people. Only downfall is that it is a good 20-25 mins walk from Square & shops. It is set right in with the locals and hidden in a corner away from hustle. Roof top terrace, never got to experience morning breakfast, not much to say about view on roof top, as there is no view. We have 18months old baby, so walking with a pram in cobbled & narrow streets was an experience. Overall fairly enjoyable stay. Yes I would recommend it to those who wants to experience both sides of Marrakech, new & old. Message to owner "Shona, you have "FABULOUS TEAM OF HARD WORKING STAFF."

Have just returned from a 5 night stay at Riad Shaden and would highly recommend anyone looking to stay in Marrakech to book. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome, we booked a transfer through the hotel to pick us up from the airport which I would highly recommend doing, we were met by hotel staff at the dro p off point (cars cant enter the Medina) and were taken on the shirt walk to the Riad. Doing things this way means you pay the right fare and dont end up being overcharged or having to haggle when you have only just arrived. Once at the Riad we were offered a really comfy seat in the beautiful internal court yard and an amazing cup of mint tea poured in the traditional way. The best arrival I have ever had upon arrival, made both my wife and I feel so relaxed and welcome. The great service and warm welcome continued throughout our whole stay, every morning and every time we returned to the Riad we were greeted with the same welcoming smiles and warm greetings. The general atmosphere is very relaxed and makes for a relaxing haven away from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. I have stayed in some very expensive 5 star hotels and not got service as good as this, Sayed and Youseff would not be out if place in the Hilton.

This Riad is an oasis in a wonderful city. The house is beautiful and comfortable. AC in the bedroom was very welcome. The rooftop terrace was a fantastic way to end the day. Breakfast was lovely, served in the court yard. The freshly squeezed orange juice was the best I have had anywhere. Riad Shaden has so many positive points I could not name them all but the best asset has to be the people who work there. We were welcomed and made to feel at home in an extremely professional and friendly way, that can be difficult to achieve but the people here manage it wonderfully. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.. It would suit family, couple or single traveller equally.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Riad Shaden and can honestly say that we have made some new friends with the staff of the Riad who were all kind, attentive and good fun. Youseff recommended several excursions and restaurants which we took up and all proved to be a great experience. We had three days out over the mountains and in the desert which we could only describe as the trip of a life time. Abdul was our friend, driver and guide during our stay and we send our special thanks to him. If anyone is thinking of booking the Riad Shaden for a stay in Marrakech do so. Stop thinking about it and book it you will be delighted I am sure. Nikki L, November 2011

We have just returned from Marrakech and stayed 3 nights in Riad Shaden. One word – ‘wow’. It is a beautiful property with the most amazing staff. Also staying in the Riad were the owners who are just lovely and even walked us to the main square on our first day so we were sure of the way (which is easy and about a 10-15 minute walk, which was nice when you needed to walk off your delicious Moroccan dinner!). Abdul picked us up from the airport and was very informative on the drive to the Riad, pointing out where things were etc. Youseff greeted us with mint tea and talked us through a number of excursions we could take. This was a very informative chat and was in no way a ‘pushy sale’. We decided to book the day trip to the mountains which included a trip to a village and a walk to some waterfalls. I can highly recommend this again it was Abdul who took us here and we saw many a packed mini bus of tour groups and felt quite smug in our nice car!! – just the two of us and Abdul. Said was an absolute gem for the time we were there, he always asked about how our day was and even ran out to get us some drinks for dinner. Everyone at the Riad goes above and beyond to make your stay in Marrakech enjoyable. They are all so approachable and will be happy to help with anything. We also enjoyed a fabulous meal in the Riad on our first night, the food was delicious – as was our breakfast every morning. Nice to try different foods to fuel us up for the day – all of which were lovely. Our first trip to Marrakech couldn’t have been better – we were blessed with good weather, fabulous staff in the Riad and plus we were staying in the Amir Suite which is just lovely. We will be back! After many visits to Marrakech we found the ideal Riad but were then disappointed to find out it was up for sale, when we discovered that the owner had bought a larger establishment called Riad Shaden we had no hesitation in giving it a try as the previous Riad had been excellent. Although further from the square [10 – 15 minutes walk] we always enjoyed the walk as it gave a chance to see local life as it happened. We were impressed by the size of the rooms at Shaden as riad rooms tend to be on the small side, the whole riad was tastefully decorated and comfortable in the evening we had dinner in the lounge and we would recommend that anyone staying should try at least one meal as the standard of cooking is fantastic and we also found it to be competitively priced. The owner has retained most of her original staff and we found that Youssef and Said spoke excellent English and one or other was always on hand to help us, we were particularly pleased they were there to help when we ran into a few problems due to rain during our camping trips and feel they went beyond the call of duty and always made us feel nothing was too much trouble. The ladies kept the whole riad immaculately clean and would provide welcome drinks whenever asked. To sum up having stayed in many riads in Marrakech over the last 10 years we find that the whole package on offer at Riad Shaden will compel us to return again and again. John and Jan, January 2012

Absolutely love love loved staying at Riad Shaden- one of the best holidays I have ever been on!! My sister and I booked for 4 nights and we were blown away by the vibrant location, wonderful staff and the value of the accommodation. Youseff and Said were so very helpful, booking hammams, restaurant reservations, escorting us to pick and dro p off points and providing info on excursions (Said even prepared breakfast for us at 05.30am as we were going on an early excursion!). We also met the owners Shona and Ronnie who were a pleasure to speak to and had a vast knowledge of Marrakech and a genuine interest in the local culture. Shona was so helpful prior to our stay as I bombarded her with emails about sightseeing and taxi transfers etc! Breakfast was spot on and filled us up nicely for our busy days ahead. Rooms were cosy, clean and tastefully decorated- there were a number of rooms for guests to chill out in aside from the bedrooms which was lovely. We loved the 15 minute walk to the main square from the Riad as it gave purpose to our days and ensured we saw more of Marrakech than just the centre of the Medina. Marrakech itself was fabulous, burstling with energy and we found the locals to be very friendly. Riad Shaden is a little gem, I cannot recommend it enough. Both my sister and I felt quite emotional when saying goodbye to everyone and we will certainly be planning a further stay in the future, hopefully with all our friends next time!
