Village house overview - owner's description
Sea Salt typical Greek village house in beautiful artistic street. The house is a real family house, or for a company of 3-4 very good young-ish friends.
The house stands out in this traditional Koskinou street with its impressive, old stone gate, high walls and its old wooden door. The door leads into the courtyard of this authentic stone village house dating back to 1906. For decades the house was beloved in Koskinou for being the place to to get married. The pebbled floor is an old mosaic of flowers and hearts and even in the ironwork of the entrance gate, you find back the shape of hearts. Yiorgos Stavridis renovated this house in 2014 using only eco-friendly material and old techniques to combine the charm of the past and the comfort of the present.
The house is located in one of the small streets of the old village centre of Koskinou. You can stroll through the narrow streets, shop for your groceries, meet the elderly sitting at their doorsteps or eat in one of the many restaurants, while the kids are running around freely.
Let us now open the door for you and invite you in:
As you enter the pebble stone courtyard through the wooden door, you see that the house has an L-shape. Inside the courtyard you are private behind the high walls as soon as you close the door. The courtyard is spacious with over 30 m2 and faces south so the sun shines brightly into the patio. The large handcrafted wooden pergola offers plenty of shade to sit, dine and relax under. A big table, benches and chairs seat easily 10 people and the build-in barbeque allows you to grill your own favourite dishes. Sunbeds on the rooftop can warm you up and the outside shower in the patio can cool you down.
On the left side, after entering the courtyard, you find the « old » washhouse. Next summer we will renovate it into an extra bedroom and a bathroom for 2 more people, but for now it is closed. The stairs between the pergola and the washhouse lead onto the roof of the whole building. On the roof you can look over Koskinou, see the ocean and feel the wind in your hair.
Under the pergola the main door is decorated with greek style stone carvings and leads you to the large living room (sala). Once you are inside, you will find another special feature of this house. There are large windows on both sides of the house. In comparison to other traditional houses, it creates extra natural light and a feeling of brightness and openness throughout the house.
The spacious open plan sala has the large stone arch (Kamara) supporting the original rustic wooden beam ceiling, and is decorated with the original and renovated furniture. The typical build-in wooden platforms or bankas, the beautiful hand carved wood work and traditional cupboards stand out. One high raised banka is remodelled as a lounge with big pillows, cable TV, DVD and free high speed wireless Internet. Your kids will love it. Under this banka you will find a walk-in closet to store your clothes, suitcases and personal belongings. On the other banka is the first of six beds in this house.
In the open sala there is also the newly handmade kitchen with all the modern amenities you can expect, plus an extra water filter and for coffee lovers a nespresso machine (please bring your own capsules!) and a Bialetti espresso-maker.
Besides the banka bed, the house offers two more bedrooms with high, authentic ceilings and windows. Both bedrooms are equipped with air-condition. From the sala you enter the first bedroom with three beds. Two single beds (or a double bed, please let us know your preference) are on a wooden platform with wood carvings and can be reached with a steep stair. The other bed is on the ground floor and can be used as a single size bed or can be transformed into a baby bed.
From this bedroom you get directly to the bathroom with an open and spacious shower, handmade floor tiles, sink, toilet and window. This bathroom leads on the other side to the second bedroom with a double bed and wooden closet. There is enough space for an extra baby bed. The combination of the stone walls, the chimney, handmade floor and the authentic closet create the special atmosphere. From the master bedroom, a door leads you directly to the courtyard again.

The bedding situation is as following: there is a double bed in one bedroom. then there is a bathoom, with shower, basin and toilet then the roof of the bathroom is used as a platform basis where a double matress is placed, so in the seperate bedroom is a double bed and there is a single childrens bed as well here. then in hte living room there is a high raised platform, that has a single mattress on it. this high raised wooden handcarved platform is reachable through its own stairs and with lovely curtains in the front for the creation of privacy. so, in reality, the house can have 3 or 4 young friends staying here, that don't mind sharing a bathroom, or a family of 5 and even 6, if they don't mind, that the bedrooms are not completely private. The seperate double bedroom is seperate though. not so suitable for 2 young couples together.
