The " Terracotta"villa which overlooks the sea, has a private swimming pool It Is the ideal place for a relaxing mature holiday for those who like village life and quiet surroundings

This property is in a very quiet settlement of approx 25 privately owned houses which are off the main tarmac road, accessed by a concrete and dirt road up into the hillside. Only suitable for those who want to be away from it all and have total peace and quiet The little village Keratokambos/Kastri is situated a mile down the road and a car is needed to get to the village and local sights, etc. This village situated next to the sea on the southeast coast, is a small resort that has long been enjoyed by the local Cretans. The last few years have also attracted visitors from further a field who have begun to discover and enjoy the tranquility and real village atmosphere of this place.
The weather is always better than the commercial north side and you would be in the furthest south part in Europe making a sun filled holiday

Local Area
In Southern Crete you can still see a traditional lifestyle of shepherd sand the flocksof sheep which still come past the house most days .olive growers, beekeepers, vineyards, fishing boats. Villages celebrate feast days and name days with delightful festivals and welcome visitors to join them in their meals, dancing and drinking. Greek Orthodox Easter is the best-known festival and should not be missed if visiting during early May.

Through picturesque scenery of pretty hillside villages, whitewashed churches and olive groves. Life in Keratokambos centres around the one main street which lines the long sand and shingle beach where you can find a local supermarket, cafés, and a handful of taverns, ensuring you dont need to go far to experience real Cretan cooking and hospitality at its best. 10 minutes east and you are at the larger village of Toutourous which boasts a beautiful beach, also in only 1 hour you reach the capital of the south of Crete, Ierapetra the south’s city since Minoan times still having a Venetian harbour castle and a large modern shopping centre, harbour bars, restaurants and nightlife.

This is a recent build and has been furnished to a very good standard in a modern open plan style. The villa is airy and light and most windows are fitted with insect screens so windows can be left open at night. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery, saucepans etc. The bedrooms are comfortable with plenty of storage for clothes but the main bedroom would benefit from air conditioning. Both bathrooms are fitted to an excellent standard. The living area is large and well planned with leather settees and stylish dining furniture. Additional storage space for all the holiday bits and bobs would be useful. The villa is set in a very quiet area of S Crete, but there are local tavernas offering good quality food at very reasonable prices. Try Zorbas at Toutsouros for an excellent meal. In our opinion, the villa is best suited to couples and families with older children, as there are open sided stairs in the villa and steep unfenced dro ps from the terrace to the neighbouring villa and pool below which could be a hazard to the elderly or young children. This is an excellent place to get away from it all and we were pleased that we had hired a 4 x 4 which was great for the local roads and the steep dirt track up to the villa.

We spent 10 days here as a base to see the south coast and sample a more authentic Greece, before tourism kicks in. We had a wonderful relaxing time. Empty beaches and good tavernas. The area is stunningly beautiful and the accommodation excellent and would recommend anyone to spend time here. Many of the roads are steep and winding, giving stunning views at every turn. There is a steep drive to the property. Bear this in mind when booking your car rental.

About the owner
Our first discovery of crete was on a package holiday to Chania on the west side of the island over ten years ago. A few days spent exploring and we were taken in by the beauty of the island and friendly people. Along with the fresh cusine, local wines and perfect sunny days and we were hooked. Over the next few years I spent a week a year on a motorcycle touring around the Island exploring and looking for a spot that had everything we wanted. In Keratocambos we think we have found that and hope you also find the area as beatiful and romantic as we do. Our local knowledge and understanding of what we in the UK and want in a holiday means the Villas are designed and fitted out to give a greek feel, but with all the home comforts we are used to in the UK. The villas are aimed at independent travellers like us who want to explore and have the privacy, peace and quiet, beatiful scenery and a local village life.
