Are you familiar with terms like: ‘rare opportunity’ and ‘for the select few’? Not as a selling gimmick but more as a real chance to experience something positively different than most other travelers will. If so you should be able to recognize one when you see it.

Have you ever stayed at a traditional Crete Villa house?

We are not talking for those properties for the tourist hordes, but a real 200-year old renovated villa house, made of stone and old wood - not bricks and cement. Normally you shouldn’t have. Crete people rarely open their country houses to others, they keep them to themselves and their loved ones; they have different properties that can be rented by travelers. But you may have visited such a house by accident, if any local person ever invited you to a meal or a wedding celebration.

Photos will only give you a small part of the whole experience in staying at this villa house, because most of the experience can’t be framed in a snapshot. How can any photo tell you that you will be staying at a village whose origin can be traced back 2,500 years? Or that it enjoys one of the finest climates on the island? Even give you a hint on how the air smells in the morning and early evening. Or pass you the feeling of peace and tranquility in a beautiful village surrounded by hills and olive groves? Or the smell of the house's interior?

And then it’s the ease of access to it that makes it a great candidate for accommodation. An ideal location for those wishing to explore the island because as we say: ‘it is close to everywhere’; and also a great spot to stay at if you come for Business.

Just 20 minutes from Heraklion Airport (don’t worry; you won’t hear any planes passing over your head!) the Port and the Center. But close to Rethymnon (60 min.), Chania (90 min.) and Sitia (90 min.); the palace of Knossos is just 4 miles (6 Km) and the closest beach 7 miles (10 Km).

The village of Archanes is beautifully organized with everything you may need for your stay; you will find banks, grocery stores, taverns and everything else at walking distance from your quiet neighborhood. The house is ideal for you whether you are a group of people, a large family or a smaller family, even a couple. And we arrange it to be an exact fit to your stay, no matter if this means extra “chez long” resting chairs around the pool, or a baby cot, or whatever is necessary.

What’s in the villa house? Three beautiful double bedrooms (one of them has an extra single bed) two bathrooms (one with bath tub the other with a shower cabin) divided between the two floors of the house. Great furniture, a beautiful living room that connects to a smashing-looking, fully equipped and very functional kitchen and the veranda – deck with the private pool and the barbeque. There is TV in every room with satellite channels and Wireless Internet. Cleaning and linen change is taking place twice a week.

Should you have infants with you, we can arrange for baby cots, just let us know.

So what are you waiting for? Make the move. Go a bit different this time; take advantage of this rare opportunity and be one of the select few who will truly enjoy their stay in Crete, at our beautiful villa house during this 2015-16 season.

We are open all year and we look forward to be your hosts no matter the season!

Family from Lincoln, USA Aug 2015

Wonderful home on a narrow old street in the center of the village of Arhanes, right next door to a bakery, and a short walk down the street to the center of the village. The home has a cool sunny pool, just like pictured, a nicely appointed kitchen, clothes washer, air conditioning, tv, music, bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs and downstairs, and was professionally cleaned before and once again during our stay. It was a very fun and comfortable place to stay for the seven people in our extended family.

The owners of the home are an olive-producing family in the area who also run two (bigger) hotels. They personally welcomed us when we arrived and also the day we left, and they were happy to tell us all about olive-production and about we could do when visiting Crete.

The village is small and quiet (streets are very narrow, electricity went out once), yet it has a very busy town square that was bustling with activity after 6pm, with great restaurants, lots of folks gathering young and old. We loved the food at the restaurant Bakaliko (very friendly owner, very creative menu). We enjoyed shopping for produce at quiet little groceries to cook a bit ourselves, and we got a chance to meet several chatty friendly people in town.

You need to rent a car (for our big party we rented two small cars) to get around. Arriving by car first day the narrow streets were a bit intimidating to us - you want your car to be small - but after a day we figured out where things are and began to feel a bit like Cretans. Of course during our stay we drove around to beaches and Heraklion and also visited the big palace of Knossos, but right in Arhanes there are some old Minoan ruins just up the hill from the house! It's wonderful to just walk around the narrow old streets and live in the town.

We had a great time - highly recommended.

the place was very nice and clean
we very much appreciated having sugar, oil, vinegat etc at our disposal. this made our stay more comfortable
this is a very nice homy house and very good location to go to Knossos or Heraklion
the village is verynice and enjoyable
the two things i would suggest to improve upon are the pillows which are not comformtable at the next door neigbor who is quite noisy

I appreciated paying everything by credit card before leaving. this way I did not have to bring cash. and I. did not feel the owners were being unlawful

if you want a house in a. village near Knossos this is ideal and a wondreful pace to stay

The villa was exactly as depicted/described, and the owners were a super graceful and helpful couple. We loved the house, the pool, and the surroundings. We spent wonderful nights dining on great greek food at the plaza nearby, surrounded by locals. I was particularly touched by how the owners provided a wide range of extras like some food/drinks, sun block, body washes, lotions, etc. This was unexpected (many rentals dont give you any of this at all), and highly appreciated. The house was about 30 mins from Heraklion and Ligaria beach, were we spent most of the week scuba diving. A fabulous place all in all!

We - my wife and two children - both 6 years old - had a great stay here. The house had everything we needed - both inside and outside :)

Eleni & Jiannis where excellent hosts, always there to help with anything - including answering on SMS which beach to go to....and not to mention picking us up in the middle of the night when we arrived and did not manage to find the right road to the villa.

The villa it self is situated in a very small village, quit and nice, although we could have hoped for a few more restaurants. I loved it, my wife loved it and also our children. We are looking forward to coming back to this place again.

Excellent villa for 4 of us. Well positioned in Archanes, easy to walk to everything you need and only a short drive to Heraklion. Technically this villa sleeps 7 but it is not big enough to take 7 people comfortably. A glass wall seperates the upstairs bedroom from the main living area and there is no curtain so no privacy. There are only 4 sunloungers and each of the tables only sits 4 people. This would not work for a party of 7 adults and you would have to be careful of the age of children you went with because the pool is compleatly open. One of the beauties of this villa is having the lounge doors wide open onto the garden and pool area, you couldnt do this safely with small children. We were a party of 4 adults and it was fantastic, well equipped and a lovely place to stay. The owners were helpful without being in any way intrusive. We did get caught out by a bank holiday and it would be helpful to have that sort of local information in a file or folder.

The house is fantastic even if the street is a bit noisy in the night. The village has everything you want: restaurants, supermarkets, great architecture......The owners cannot be more friendly and welcoming!!! We had a superb holiday with our children....

The house is beautiful, it has a great character. It is located in the centre of the village, close to a bakery shop. Supermarkets, Pharmacy, Bank and local restaurants (tabernas) are walking distance. All rooms are clean and spacious, with air conditioning.

Before arriving I was quite sure the pictures and description would lie somehow. Everything looked just a bit too good. Surely the pool would turn out to be just a small puddle. No way would the air conditioning work every room. At least there wouldn't be a free wifi like promised. Boy was I glad to be wrong. Everything was A-okay and working as promised. The kitchen was well stocked, showers and air conditioning working wonderfully and washing machine took care of the sports clothes after our morning jog. We were a family of 4 with an aunt and grandparents thrown in. Everybody got their own bedrooms and were happy with the living quarters. We splashed in the pool with the kids during the day and had barbeques at the grill in the backyard. The staff was exctremely helpful and we felt we could turn to them even with the smallest of questions. When our child got sick and we needed to find a pharmacy, the staff went out of their way to find which pharmacy in the village would be open on weekends. The village is very pictoresque and above all AUTHENTIC. It seems as if it hasn't been touched by tourism in any way. There were no annoying street vendors, no pushy door men, no gaudy neon lights. Yet almost everybody spoke enough English to communicate with travellers. Still restaurants and cafes were aplenty for such a small village. There were many bakeries from which to buy fresh bread for breakfast and small supermarkets for all the other groceries. We had rented two cars to get around the island and reach the beach (necessary), but ended up mostly just walking around the village or hanging out at the pool. All in all we had an enjoyable week because of the fantastic villa and the wonderful village. I would recommend Archanes and this villa to anybody tired of the same old beach and hotel routine.

The owners of this villa couldn't have been more helpful without being in any way intrusive. We did get caught out be a bank holiday and it would have been good if thay had told us about that but this is a small detail. The villa itself is lovely, well laid out and well equipped. The doors opening out onto the garden and the pool open the place up but would be a real problem with small children, a nightmare in fact. The villa is described as sleeping 7, which technically it does but it would not accomodate 7 in other ways. There are only 4 pool loungers, 4 chairs in the living area and 4 chairs at each of the tables, plus the upstairs bedroom is seperated from the living area by a glass wall and no curtain so no privacy. However,as we were a party of 4 none of this was a problem. In comparision with other villa rentals it is excellent value for money but you would be disappointed if you arrived in a party of 7. Archanes itself is a lovely village with everything you need and well worth a bit of a poke around. Wander off the beaten track a bit and it is beautiful. Car hire is necessary to get the most out of Crete. We went in august and it was very hot, I think it would be spectacular in Spring and much more pleasent to wander around
