Villa overview - owner's description

We have three villas set in 5000sq meters of gardens with a large 165sq meter swimming pool, one you can really swim in. We are located on the edge of the village of Tsikalaria, away from the main roads, and secluded, to create a quiet but not isolated base for your holiday.
Being a reclaimed orange grove, all the water for the garden is supplied by the original well, giving an unusual green micro climate within the warmth of Crete.

Lavender Villa consists of two bedrooms Kitchen/ dinner, bathroom, and a large covered decking overlooking the pool
We are well placed and within easy reach of Chania with the beautiful Venetian harbour, tavernas, shops, museums and ancient atmosphere.
Our local shops and tavernas provide convenient shopping and dining. Souda, the nearby town and port offers a Carrefour supermarket and the renowned fresh fish tavernas and is just 3 km away.
Our aim is to provide an affordable, quiet, green environment that is private but not totally isolated. We live within the grounds and provide on site management and help. From our own experience we have made a point of providing good sized air conditioned bedrooms, adequate cooking and barbeque equipment, large bath and shower rooms and raised sun terraces.
For those wanting to experience the historical aspect of Crete, the Aptera Roman settlement is only 15 minutes away and we are surrounded by archaeological sites, monasteries and museums.
For the more active holiday, there are daily excursions to walk the world famous Samaria Gorge, horse riding, wind surfing, climbing, walking, go carting, paragliding and diving.
Boat trips leave from Chania harbour and Souda ferry terminal daily. Excursions are also available to Knossos, Elafonisi, and Santorini.
The beaches around the area are plentiful, ranging from quiet and remote, to popular. Most beaches have tavernas on the beach or nearby, and all have easy free parking.
We offer a truly ideal location from which to explore this beautiful island and believe you will find peace and relaxation within your private villa, shady gardens and of course our beautiful swimming pool.

photos on the site appear to be out of date. owner tells us he will be doing work on the villa during closed season, it does need updating. dont have a problem with pets, 4 dogs and 3 cats, but they do seem to like to drink and swim in the pool, we not over keen on sharing pool with animals. Ian easy to talk to and can pass on information about some of the local shops such as supermarkets and butchers etc., Ian did clean the pool every day but the wind didn't help as it would keep blowing more leaves into the pool.
be prepared with citronella type candles as you can get infested with biting insects, you can put your hand through the gap of the front door and wall, easy access for insects. had a visit from a praying mantis one night. fully equipped kitchen with cooker, washing machine and dishwasher very helpful, but be careful what you have running together. the cooker was old and slow.

Thank you for your review.
We realise that our advertised photo is out of date, which is why since July we have had the drone video of the villa and gardens to ensure an authentic representation of the villas and grounds.
Our natural environment, which includes pets, is part of our unique green experience. The electricity supply does come under pressure when there is a high demand locally which makes cooking time a little longer, and so we suggest the use of our gas grill/oven as an alternative.
Our aim in our adverts and website is to communicate an accurate picture of our villas for our guest to make an informed choice.

The owner was very friendly and communicative - he was on site to answer all our questions. The property itself was clean and contained all that was necessary for a pleasant and peaceful holiday.

Very nice villa, with large swimming pool. The house we had, the closest to the swimming pool (what isn't a problem in termes of noise/intimacy), is clean and well équiped (except a micro wave everything is provided).
Many beaches around (5 to 15 minutes by car) were you CAN park very easily.
Ian was very kind and helpfull, don't Forget to ask him where the Fish shop is: Nice fresh fish you can have on the barbecue!
You definitely need a car, I would advise not to rent through the typical rental sites but ask Ian for greek adresses, much cheaper (
If interested with boating, rental is possible in mathary With, ir's really worth it !!
We ´ll come back !

Very nice and comfortable villa in beautifully planted and well maintained gardens. The best pool of any villa I have stayed in. Ian the owner very helpful and friendly. Our stay was slightly spoilt by the wifi which worked only 10% of the time in the week we were there. This was apparently a regular problem but not one due to any fault of the owners, rather the quality of internet service in Crete. Hopefully this problem will be fixed for 2017.

Greece is investing in internet communications, so hopefully this will get better.

First Impression of the neighborhood is not great and took us back a bit. However, once we had parked and walked into the garden proper, we were really pleased. We spent two weeks in Lavender villa and loved it. We were aiming for a relaxed family holiday without major distractions (TV, computer games etc) and the villa was perfect for that. Ian was a great host and was always happy to chat or offer advice when asked, although was never intrusive in the slightest. The chickens and dogs were a welcome addition and the cats, whilst a bit of a pain at times, are all over Crete, so are really part of the territory.

We would recommend this property as a destination for families or couples who want to be a little bit away from the action but close enough to get there if and when you want to.

We stayed in this property in 2009 from late April until late August and had a great time. We had a few minor problems which were ably and rapidly sorted out by the site management. the facilities were excellent and the villa is only a few hundred metres from local shops and tavernas who are very welcoming to visitors even though they dont have much english! - it helps if you know a few words of greek or have a simple phrase mbook with you! l would highly recommend this site for a quiet, relaxing time and if you like a bit of the high life then Chania is only a short bus or taxi ride away (bus fare 2 euros!).

Eight years ago, we finally released our dream and myself, Ian, Jeannie my wife and our two girls set off from England for our new life on the warm and sunny island of Crete.

We had already purchased a plot of land with a house and one acre of orchard, delicious navel oranges.

In the time honored fashion of the island it took over a year to overcome the paperwork and legalities connected with our purchase but then we were able to start our huge project.

The gardens and villas slowly took shape, each year bringing exciting changes as the trees and plants matured. The result is now three villas set in beautiful gardens.

Having been to Greece on previous occasions we wanted to make the accomodation spacious. A large bathroom was a must and raised sun terraces were top priority.

We wanted to create individual privacy without being isolated and a pool that you could really swim in,

We are very fortunate that we are only a short distance from Chania, the principal town, and we also determined be affordably priced, a place for people to relax.

We aim to create integrity and customer care. We are here, on site, for the duration of your stay to make sure everything runs smoothly for you.
