Villa Trefle - Atlantic Coast & Lakes

Overview

This area will appeal to all ages, whether you are searching for lots of activity or just want to laze in the sunshine. An ideal location with the ocean beaches and the sun warmed freshwater lake just 15 mins apart. Surf, body board, fish, sail, wind surf, kite surf, water ski - every conceivable type of water activity is on the doorstep. Visit the other surfing beaches at Mimizan Plage, Hossegor etc. Cycle on the special tracks or ride through the pine scented forests, bird watch at Le Teich, taste oysters in Arcachon, and the wine in St Emilion and the Medoc. Sample the shopping and architecture in historic Bordeaux (magnificent when floodlit) or San Sebastien, just over the border in Spain. Picturesque St Jean de Luz has Hemingway associations, whilst pretty St Jean Pied du Port is on the pilgrimage route to St Jacques de Compostella. Spend a day in elegant Biarritz with reminders of the 1930s jet set. Nearest airports are Bordeaux (1hr) Biarritz (1.5hrs) and Bergerac (2.5hrs)

Sports/Tuition and Hiring facilities in Sanguinet
The local tennis club welcomes visitors throughout the year.
Cycles of all descriptions and sizes, including special tagalong bikes can be hired in the village.
At the lakeside, tuition and hire services at reasonable rates are available for windsurfing and sailing - on a daily or weekly basis.
Pedaloes can be hired, together with small canoes and other boats at the Plage Broustaricq.
Motorboat hire is available. If you wish to bring your own sailing/motor boat, a permit to use the lake must be purchased at the Mairie. You will be asked to provide an International boat driving permit if your engine is more than 9.9hp. This will also be required if you are hiring a motorboat with a more powerful engine. The lake is policed regularly, so using the lake without a permit or a valid licence is NOT advised!

Visiting vineyards, Chateaux and Wine tasting.
Sanguinet is about 90 mins drive from the Medoc and one hour from the St Emilion/Bordeaux Superior wine producing areas. These are well worth a visit - almost every village name conjures up images of a wine bottle!! St Emilion is a very pretty hilltop village, well worth a visit, as is nearby St Macaire.
Elegant historic Bordeaux is now pedestrian free in the centre and it has also been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Le miroir on the river front reflects the magnificent buildings on the quayside. A shallow pool of water, it is possible to walk across it - and sometimes the water changes to a knee high mist. A great novelty for children of all ages.
You can taste and buy wine direct from the wine producers at the local markets during the main season.

Summary:

Lake 500m, ocean 17km, all water sports, cycle tracks, Bordeaux 1hr, Biarritz 1.5hrs - a fantastic location for every age. Primarily a French holiday area.

We stayed at Villa Trefle for a week in June 13. The villa offered everything we wanted. Key for us were that it was close to the lake, within driving distance of the sea, easy to get to from Bordeaux and had a secure safe garden for our 2 young children. The villa was spotless when we arrived and there was lots of useful equipment (particularly a high chair and cot). It was in a quiet street but not far from the town centre and five mintues walk to the beach. The owner was very helpful when arranging the holiday. Sanguinet had everything we needed - a safe beach, supermarket, a few restaurants. Overall it was just what we needed.

Our second lovely holiday in Sanguinet. For a family holiday the location is perfect with everything within easy, flat cycling distance. Villa Trefle was very comfortable catering for all our needs and the table tennis table in the garden was a great hit!

We had a wonderful relaxing holiday at Villa Trefle, less than an hour from Bordeaux airport. The villa was very conveniently located for both the lakeside beaches at Sanguinet and for the Atlantic Coast, as well as being a pleasant location to just chill out and relax with a very secluded back garden. The villa was very well equipped and very clean, and the table tennis table was a big bonus!

Villa Trefle exceeded our expectations - any photos we had seen before the stay did not do it justice. The villa is beautifully kept with the garden the real highlight: perfect for young children with the shaded areas, sandpit and paddling pool. The villa was a short walk to a beautiful lake beach again perfect for young children with the golden sand, shallow and warm water. The nearby sea beaches offer a sharp contrast for those liking bigger waves. We found the area especially good for small children with a good variety of activities - sports, nature, culture (Sangiunets own jazz festival) and good food and wine (so close to Bordeaux.
Villa Trefle Having visited this part of France several times and having stayed in apartments and camp sites, it was a pleasure to stay in Villa Trefle, with its “mod cons” and comforts. The garden is a ‘jewel’ amid the Les Landes forest and is especially beautiful early in the morning and late evening, with a bottle of Bordeaux red ! Having 3 teenagers (13, 14, 16 yrs) we couldn’t spend the three weeks in the vineyards or shops, therefore teenage activities were high on our list. One of the places they enjoyed most was the “Adrenaline Park” at Moliets – this has an excellent quad bike and motorcycle track through the oak and pine trees. The whole adventure takes about 3 hours. Several trips were also made to ‘Bruno’s sailing centre’ at La Rive, between Sanguinet and Biscarosse- catamarans and windsurfing boards can be hired and sailed in a safe environment on the lake. The lake “down the street” is also a gem and well worth visiting regularly. We also loved going to the (sea) beach at Biscarosse Plage, at sunset to watch the brilliant red sun set above the refreshing waves. Other places we consider worth visiting are: The Medoc (St Estephe) allow 1 day, St Emilion (1 day), Bayonne (1 day) – a beautiful town for strolling around streets and shops, Bordeaux (1 day), Arcachon – shops for the ladies, Monday evening market at Biscarosse Plage with the local traditional dancers on stilts (9.30 pm), Aqualand (Arcachon) – make sure the sun cream is on !, Cap Ferret – lighthouse is worth a visit/climb and nearby a restaurant called L’Escale with seating on the waterfront. As a treat (esp. for adults) La Bonne Auberge at Lugos (15 mins) serves excellent local dishes and a Saturday evening was much enjoyed there. We have had three weeks of almost uninterrupted sunshine with temp’s from 25 – 300. Villa Trefle was spotless, very well equipped, with helpful notes where appreciated. The table tennis table was well used and much appreciated and caused many a laugh. From reading the other and most helpful reviews we got the “Floc” and enjoyed the other tips from previous visitors ! The bottle of wine that greeted us on arrival was also a nice and well appreciated gesture. Well done Anne and Fred and many thanks for sharing your home!
The villa was beautifully presented and had everything you could need. There was a chilled bottle of wine when we arrived which was great and the garden was beautifully maintained and secure. Sanguinet was lovely and even though we were before the season really starts we had plenty to do for the week. Recommend cycling the tracks around the lake, visiting Arcachon and Duna d Pyla - Europes biggest sand dune, Bordeaux was great for the only raiy day and the beaches around the lake were beautifully maintained and perfect fro young children to swim and play on.
We have had such a lovely holiday – our first time in this area. The highlight has been the wonderful lake. We got so lazy that we spent every day of our second week there. The kind man at the tennis club in Sanguinet opened up especially for us.Norma and Bob Dunblane, Scotland.
Another super holiday in Sanguinet! We particularly loved the garden at the Villa Trèfle – very peaceful and private. We were very impressed with the standard of the lovely Villa Trèfle. Having our bikes with us (although you can hire them locally) made moving around very easy and we cycled everywhere.Simon and Suzy Exeter Devon
The Villa Trefle was perfect for us and we really enjoyed the lovely garden. We had a heatwave (la canicule) and we appreciated the bedroom ceiling fans and the shutters, which helped to keep the house cool, and us to sleep at night. We love this area and hope to be back soon.Adrian and Kirsty Alsace, France.
Having stayed in another property owned by the same couple, we were expecting a high standard – and we were not disappointed. Villa Trefle is a lovely place to stay with absolutely everything you could need close at hand. And thanks to Anne, the owner, for sending me to her optician, who sorted me out with prescription sunglasses in a couple of days – I had left mine at home.Brenda Grogan
The beach nearest the villa was great – offering shade to those of us who wanted it, and hot sun for the others. The villa itself is very comfortable with the kitchen being equipped to meet anyone’s requirements.Val and Bill Mayo
We came out of season, at the end of September and beginning of October, with two small dogs. The house with it’s enclosed garden was perfect for them, and we didn’t expect to have two weeks in shorts and T shirts!Peter and Bridget the Tarn, France
