Lovely French Gite, sleeps six in comfort. Exclusive use of enclosed 10 x 5m pool. French character accomodation, Generous welcome pack, including first evening meal and breakfast
Chez John was recently converted from a 17th century stone built barn and retains much of its original character. It nestles in the rural, tranquil hamlet of La Tremoulie and has a large garden with a 10 by 5 metre fully enclosed private swimming pool for the exclusive use of those occupying the gite.
The gîte is a short drive, or 10-15 minute leisurely walk along quiet country lanes from the village of Champniers et Reilhac in the beautiful Perigord Vert region of the Dordogne. (www.champniers-reilhac.fr)
Champniers et Reilhac is a very traditional, sleepy French village, dating back to the tenth century and boasting a bread depot, bar, post office and tennis court. The bar serves a good choice of food. The bar is friendly and welcoming and great places to sit outside and watch village life!
During July and August Champniers et Reilhac alternates with nearby St Mathieu to host a weekly evening street market and barbecue, with live music and dancing!
The small towns of St Mathieu and Piegut Pluviers are less than ten minutes by car and have a choice of bars, restaurants and large supermarkets. Piegut Pluviers hosts the largest street market in the South West every Wednesday throughout the year and is packed with stalls selling everything you could imagine!
Also less than ten minutes drive from La Tremoulie there is a choice of two large leisure lakes with sandy beaches, mini golf, pedalos, bar/restaurants, children’s’ playgrounds and shady picnic areas.
There is everything you could possibly need on holiday within ten minutes driving time and driving in the area is a pleasure as there is very little traffic.
The historic town of Brantome has something to offer everyone and is not to be missed. Surrounded by the river Drome and its little meandering tributaries, it is known as France’s little Venice. Ancient buildings on little cobbled streets house a diverse variety of shops, cafes and brocantes and a large market is held every Friday morning.
If you want to try your hand at canoeing, providing you are over 5 years old, you can be taken upriver by bus, kitted out with lifejacket, plonked in a canoe and left to paddle your way back!
We are Nigel and Janice John and we took early retirement and moved to France in June 2008.
After busy professional lives in the London area we love the peace and tranquillity of La Tremoulie. We chose the area for its rural location, yet easy access to lively market towns, international airports and motorway network to channel ports.
The locals have been friendly and welcoming and we’ve made many new friends within the community. We love our new home and the culture and friendliness of our adopted country – we hope you will too!
Exceeded all our expectations Nigel & Jan very welcoming and went out of their way to help us - they surprised us with a birthday cake for our son - and the welcome pack was very good.
Lovely quiet area with lots of good walks and restaurants within a short drive.
Excellent value for money and cannot recommend highly enough. We will return.

Stayed Aug 2013 - Family
This Gite is an absolute gem!
Honestly, one of the most relaxing holidays that we have had as a family. Nigel and Jan are the perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them and they go out of their way to ensure that your stay exceeds your expectations.
We normally holiday in the Mediterranean, I for one was worried that being away from the coast could become an issue, half way through our stay I asked my teenage daughters which they preferred, answer : Chez John!! (There are two beautiful Lakes with man made beaches, and great facilities, just a short 10 min drive away).
If chillaxing by the more than ample swimming pool is not for you then there are plenty of places of interest to visit and many beautiful walks/ drives within the Dordogne and Limousin area.
We had great weather whilst there in August, however the Gite is fully stocked with games (indoors and out) and library catering for most tastes ...and most importantly WIFI !!!
The most disappointing thing about this holiday, was the day we had to go home!!
A long drive down from Calais, but worth every mile! (perhaps a stop overnight would break up journey) ..
Well Done Jan and Nigel, hopefully see you again soon !

There were 5 of us in total. Myself, Husband, daughter, father and sister. The Gite proved to be an exceptional find which Jan and Nigel have lovingly decorated . It is beautiful and the “welcome package” is more and above what any one would expect! We really did not need for anything. They are exceptional hosts and really try to help you have a good holiday by providing excellent knowledge of the surrounding areas (and the weather forecast from their computer!!). Nigel was more than happy to let us follow him to the market so we would be able to find parking and not get lost!!
The garden is really pretty and really nice to sit out in the evening to have supper, there is a BBQ available. They have provided a couple of shaded areas either by the house or near the pool. The pool is marvellous! There is so much room in it and my daughter had fun in it every day! Jan and Nigel have lots of floats and toys to entertain the children in the pool (and adults a like!!).
The village is only a short (slow) 20 min walk away. All flat. A nice walk in the morning to get your fresh bread for breakfast. The main supermarket is only a 10 min drive.
As we enjoyed this holiday so much, and there is so much more to see than we could fit in for one week, we will defiantly come again next year.

What a beautiful hidden gem!
This gite is the perfect romantic retreat - if you want peace and quiet the sound of birds, scent of flowers. twinkling fairylights, flickering candles, a glass (or 2!) of good wine - then look no further this is the place for you.
The gite is very comfortable, the private pool is secluded and gardens delightful. Jan and Nigel are perfect hosts and their attention to detail is amazing.
We loved it so much we didnt want to leave and cant wait to go back soon.

This was a glorious retreat for our whole family from aged 51 years to aged 7 years.
For starters the wecome pack and the welcome were both very generous. The photos of the Gite do not do it jutice it is very spacious, light and comfortable. The Gite is in a perfect french setting with the grounds spacious, tranquil and private.
The bedrooms were perfect, the pool was lovely and there is every aminity you need in the gite.
The town is quiet but it is a nice stroll to the town and it has a bakery and restaurant. There is so much to do that by car takes between 10 to 25 mins. We were there for a week and were not able to do everything. Which means we will be back.
Jan and Nigel are perfect hosts! At times we did not know that they were there and amazingly (like Mary Poppins) they are there when you do.They are kind and will help with anything you need. As my 7 year old says EVERYONE needs a Nigel!
