Town house overview - owner's description

Monflanquin is a bastide village which changed hands between the English and the French several times during the 100 years war. It is set on top of a hill with lush surrounding countryside and many chateaux. It is well known for Les Medievales which take place over 2 days on the 15/16 August every year. Most of the villagers dress up in medieval costumes which are for hire in the square, and there are always interesting events which change from year to year. This area of France is renowned for its duck, geese, hazelnuts and walnuts and abounds in great places to eat. We have a prize winning baker, 2 bars and several restaurants catering for all tastes, and as I'm a foodie we have a list of restaurants tried and tested for those who want to wander further afield than Monflanquin.

Our little house is a gentle 5 minute stroll from the main square. We have been told that it dates from the early 17th century but it has been changed and rechanged through the centuries. If only houses could tell their tale! It is not large but it is very cosy with an antique (140 +- years old) monastery table seating 10 and a well equipped kitchen. For those who enjoy watching TV we receive both English and French channels and of course we have WiFi and good reception too!

I graduated from Trinity College Dublin and as a linguist I love to travel and meet other like minded people.

We have had the house for several years and found it by visiting a large number of bastide villages and narrowing down the ones we liked until we found our little house.
