We are Kim & Heather and we purchased Kermabiou in January 2005 after three visits to various parts of France in 2004. During that two day visit to Brittany in September 2004 we looked at 15 houses and Kermabiou was that last one we saw. We only agreed to view it as we were staying locally. We turned into the drive and fell in love with it immediately.
The house was built in 1847 and we are the fifth family to own it. In early 2007 we sold a small piece of land back to a local who was going to build a house next door. Various problems incurred by him have resulted in no house being built at present, so it is very secluded.
Unfortunately looks can be deceiving and after we had completed the purchase and started to redecorate, found that what we had bought was not what it seemed. The previous owners had done such a good job of covering the walls with various layers of paint, plywood, plastic and material, they had caused a major condensation problem that caused dampness. As we stripped back these layers the base rendering just fell away exposing the stone you can see from the outside. We embarked on a two year long programme of works, which dealt with the living room and bedrooms.
In 2009 we had a new kitchen fitted and in early 2010 the pool was installed.
The bathroom was fitted in early 2011.
Nearby there are many attractions and beaches for both young and old.
Armori Park - water park for all

La Vapeur du Trieux - Steam railway

A message for the owners and not a review - A very well equipped cottage although there was a pervading smell in the lounge - from the drainage?(there were similar comments in the guest book).
Is your septic tank too close to the front door or not properly ventilated,or not ventilated far enough from the house?
Your comments have been noted. We thought we had fixed the problem when we found the waste pipe from the kitchen sink had come adrift under the kitchen unit. Work is now under way to resolve these problems and I can assure any future visitors this will be sorted. The fosse is relatively new due to the latest French regulations and was given the all clear. The tank was actually emptied before this season commenced. We apologise if this spoilt your stay in any way.

Absolutely loved our time in Le Merzer! Super location for beaches and everything really. The house is very well equipped, everything we needed was there, so we couldnt really ask for more. The kids loved the pool and the grounds are lovely. I would recommend this place to all of my friends and will certainly go back to the same area. Thanks.

We really enjoyed our holiday here. The area that the cottage was in was beautiful. It is set in the countryside in a small village so has a bakery about 2 minutes away and a supermarket about 5 minute drive away. The cottage was well presented and has everything there that you would need. They even provide things like washing up liquid handsoap and wood for the fire. We had a bit of trouble finding the cottage initially but I think this was more to do with us being tired after the journey. We called the owner who gave up instructions over the phone and we arrived shortly afterwards. I would definately stay at this cottage again. It was like a home from home

We absolutely fell in love with this place. The cottage itself was perfect, everything we needed had been provided. The pool was excellent and got used every day. The photos dont do it justice!
The village was lovely too, a lazy 1 minute drive to the local Boulangerie for breakfast things each morning was a perfect wy to start the day.
The property was fantastic, far better than we could of hoped for. The living space is a lot bigger than what it looks in the photos, with two separate areas for dining. All is modern and well finished. The bathroom is a good size and the shower/steam room is brilliant (which is also a bath). The pool is great fun, plenty big enough. The gardens are HUGE, surrounded by fields and woodland. British Sky tv is a plus, with dvd. A couple of things which were not mentioned in the description include hairdryers, iron, bbq, music system and plenty of maps of the area, etc. The village is convenient for milk, bread, bar and cigarettes. The local supermarket is only a 5 min drive down the road and has everything you could need at good prices (cheaper than UK for lots of things). Fuel prices in the supermarket are cheaper than UK too and 24hr. All in all the property is situated in a fantastic location, hard to find when you first go there, due to it being set back from the road and hidden by trees, but this makes it very private, which is great. Its also close to the zoo (15min drive) and the beaches (30min drive). We loved it and will be going back again next year, but for two weeks this time!...its a home from home...only better
We were so happy with our stay at the cottage. The facilities far exceeded our expectations with so much attention to detail. We had brought lots of bits for our baby but there was plenty of equipment provided. The kitchen was kitted out brilliantly with everything we could possibly need.
Overall a great location perfect as a base for seeing Brittany.
