Overview

La Metairie du Vignaud is a 18th Century Perigourdine farm house situated on a private woodland estate (a Domaine Forestier). The property has been sympathetically restored to provide comfortable accommodation whilst still retaining all the character, charm and quirkiness of a period property. There are three double bedrooms, one with an extra single bed, plus three more single beds on the mezzanine. In addition to the main house there is a pool house with a further double bedroom.
Accommodates 12 persons maximum.

The accommodation is on different levels, entering from the small private terrace there is a breakfast room which has an intact original example of a bread oven, table and chairs. Off the breakfast room is the galley, fitted modern kitchen, with oven, microwave, dishwasher and large American fridge. Through an arched passage is the utility room with washing machine and dryer.

From the breakfast room a doorway leads through into the large dinning room with solid wood table and chairs and large stone fireplace, which has the date, 1819, carved into one corner. A further doorway leads on to a hallway to the mezzanine over the lounge, with a double bedroom off the mezzanine. Stairs lead down in to the lounge with television (satellite with international channels), hifi music player and comfortable seating. From the opposite corner of the lounge a few steps give on to the large family bathroom and wc and a further hallway leading past the boiler room to two more double bedrooms.

Completely seperate from the main property is the pool house next to the 12 x 6 meter pool. Here there is a large dinning area with cooker, fridge and sink (Cusine d'Ete), summer kitchen. Inside the pool house is a shower room, wc and double bedroom with view onto the pool and poolside terrace.

Location and area.
The property is located a short drive from the local village, approached by a private road leading up the hill through the woodland on to the open plateau at the top. The extensive grounds give the guests a large parkland area surrounding the house and pool, attached to the old stone barn is a hot tub / jacuzzi available for use.

The pool is private for the sole use of the guests at La Metairie du Vignaud. There is also a garage block with two garages for guests plus ample parking. In the grounds you will discover some wonderful views across the valley to the nearby Chateau de Montreal and for those who wish you may also take advantage of the completely private sun terrace for sunbathing (naturist).

Local shops and supermarkets are a ten minute drive away .

You can enjoy eating in, dining al-fresco next to the pool or choose one of the local and inexpensive restaurants.

For that special meal the owners would recommend La Ferme-Auberge de Biorne a restaurant about 15 minute drive just outside the nearby village of Lunas. Here you may enjoy traditional cuisine, specialities include Canard (Duck) a l'orange, Civet de canard, Cailles au fois gras, Cassoulet, Magret, Confit and Fois gras poele. Dine inside or out on the terrace and at a very reasonable price, reservations are essential. The Perigord is renowned for it's gastronomy and is the best value for money in the whole of France.

Staying at the property provides an ideal place to relax and unwind. There are several well signed footpaths which cross the forest and valley so you can enjoy the simple pleasure of a walk in the beautiful countryside.

The location is an excellent point from which to set out and explore all that the Dordogne has to offer. You may choose to take the 'route des vins' around Bergerac or visit St Emilion, the region is world famous for it's wine, which you can sample and perhaps take home with you.

The area is full of history and pre-history, from chateaux to caves and cave dwellings, plus wonderful medieval stone villages. Enjoy just strolling around the villages or for the more energetic try canoeing. The pace of life is slow and calm and the climate is very agreeable.
