THE LOCATION AND AREA.
Situated on the edge of a quiet little village and within a short walk of the local shop and restaurant the property is in a quiet location bordering the countryside with a splendid view west across the large garden and private pool to the Chateau de Montreal.
For supermarkets and the local market (Saturday mornings) in the nearby town are a short drive (10 minutes), where you will find everything from a bank to chemist and all the other usual shops. There are several restaurants also within a short drive, including Le Rocher des Gourmets opposite the ancient abbey and church at Sourzac, recomended for its unique interior dining (the property is built into the rock face) and its excellent food.
From the house you can walk up the lane into the countryside or down and across the village, there are many signed country walks and a large panel opposite the church has a map showing some recommended routes to follow, either on foot or bicycle (local bike hire can be arranged).
The area is steeped in history from the Chateau de Montreal (guided visits throughout July and August), to the lovely village church in the centre of the village, the old stone buildings and the tucked away ancient lavoir (wash house) down by the river, to the old abbey and church at Sourzac and the hidden alleys of the nearby town of Mussidan (follow the signed town trail).
Further afield are the historic and pre-historic siotes of the Perigord Noir, along the Dorodgne valley following the river with its spectacular scenery and fairy tale chateux. To the south lies medieval Bergerac surrounde by its vineyards amoungs which is the Chateua the Monbazillac and its famous sweet white dessert wine. To the north is Riberac and Brantome and going west towards Bordeaux you enter the Girond and Saint Emillion which hosts the strong full bodied Bordeaux red wine.
You will without a doubt enjoy discovering all that the Dorodgne has to offer both near and far and you will appreiciate the friendliness of the people, the quiet and calm pace of life and the agreeably sunny climate.
This is a great value property in a beautiful location. The views from the garden are stunning and the infinity pool provided a welcome diversion from the hot weather that we enjoyed during our stay. The village is tiny and quiet but has a lovely little restaurant, and whilst there was only myself and my wife on this trip, the villa would be suitable for a large family or even a group of friends. The owners live next door and are so welcoming and helpful whilst remaining unobtrusive. We will definitely return.
La Gabriale is sweet country house tucked away in the edge of the village of Issac. Perfectly situated to go anywhere in the Dordogne valley. You have all the ameneties needed for a perfect vacation stay. A big plus is the owner, Justine. Such a sweet lady who speak little english, but still did her best to communicate with us. She greets us with a bright beautiful smile in the morning. Gave us a tour of this tiny village. The house is very comfortable, it was 100 degree weather outside but the house stayed cool and comfortable inside. The pool and the backyard gave us a perfect place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. The place is very serene anytime of the day. This was such an excellent vacation experience.
