The wing of an old farm house ,sleeps 2/4 situated in tranquil setting near Avranches.
Ideal base for Mt St Michel, WW2 beaches, walking, cycling, sandy beaches, golf, fishing etc.
We bought our old farm in 1998 and have spent much time and care renovating it. We love the peace and tranquility of the area and the fabulous local produce.
The gite was finished in 2005, and is fully self contained.
It is set in an acre and a half of Normandy country side, with small farms on all sides. However, Avranches, the major town in the area, is only 10 minutes away.
The gite is ideal for 2, with an ensuite twin bedroom, but two more people can be accommodated on the sofa bed downstairs.A cot and stairguard can be provided
Travel is very easy, with many options. The drive from the ferry ports of St Malo and Caen takes approximately 1 hour, and Cherbourg, Le Havre, Dieppe and Roscoff. slightly longer. The airports at Dinard and Rennes are 1 hour away. Because the French motorways are so good and uncrowded, the drive from Calais or the Eurotunnel terminal is a delight, taking about 4 hours.
The galleried first floor has twin beds, with an ensuite shower room and separate WC with hand basin. Downstairs, there is a table seating 4 and a comfortable sofa bed.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas hob, microwave oven, fridge with small freezer and dishwasher. There is a good selection of kitchen tools and saucepans and plenty of crockery, cutlery and glasses.
The satellite TV receives English TV and radio programmes. There is also a DVD/CD player a selection of English and French paperback books and some guide books and games. The guest book lists some of our favourite restaurants and we would be delighted if you would add to the list
The building is well insulated, and delightfully cool in summer.
Outside there is a barbecue for al fresco eating with a table and chairs. The grounds are laid to grass and fenced all round
There is ample car parking.
Things to see and do
Mont St Michel, Frances most famous tourist destination, is visible just over the ridge and can be reached in 30-40 minutes.
Bayeux, with its world famous tapestry is a short drive up the A84 towards Caen and can be combined with a visit to the Normandy Landing Beaches at Arromanches.
Avranches, the nearest town, has a museum which contains the manuscripts from Mont St Michel and the skull of St Aubin, who built the monastery. There is also a very good World War 2 Museum in Avranches.
It is possible to make a day trip visit Monets garden in Giverny.
This area is idyllic for walking and cycling and has many signposted routes.
There are numerous golf courses within an easy drive and the nearby coastal resorts offer sailing and sand yachting. Nearby stables provide horse riding, and a go carting centre is a short distance to the north. For the really adventurous, the airfield at Avranches can arrange micro- light flights around the bay of Mont St Michel.
France’s premier salmon fishing river is close to the gite and in season, licences may be bought in the local shops. The gently sloping sandy beaches are ideal for small children, and Avranches and Brecey have swimming pools.
The zoo at Champrepus near Villedieu, is wonderful for children and adults alike.
Our grandchildren have enjoyed trout fishing at nearby Brecey and eating their catch for supper.
Normandy is one of the best gastronomic regions of France, and there are many good restaurants nearby. We provide some details for all price ranges and welcome further recommendations.
The towns of St Malo and Granville have casinos and many chic boutiques.
All the surrounding towns have market days, where superb provisions can be bought: freshly caught fish, shell fish, local cheeses and cream, and many types of locally raised chickens, ducks and meat.
There are supermarkets in Avranches, and Ducey which have some English speaking staff.
We found it to be a good choice for 2 people, in quiet rural setting, good location particularly for Mont St Michel and the D-Day places of interest. We like the local town Ducey, and can particularly recommend for quality and value "La Marionette" an Italian style restaurant in the town centre. Just be aware when booking through VillaRenters that they charge a mandatory non-refundable £25 breakage insurance. I took this up with VillaRenters but got nowhere with them.

Superb Property set in a great and quiet location, everything we could have possibly needed in a wonderfully presented and clean Gite owned by very friendly people
very easy access to nearby supermarket, and the major town of Avranches, and the Beach at Carolle-plage
Easy access for the motorways to get to the D-Day beaches and surrounding attractions etc
Having stayed in Northern Normandy last year we definately preffered the more Rural setting that Le Mesnil Ozenne has to offer, watch out for anyone in a white Renault though!!!

A gem of a hideaway for a couple yet still close to amenities. Lots of restaurants of all types in the surrounding area. Lunch in the bar in nearby St Ovin is not to be missed for value for money and eating with the local workers.

An enjoyable week here, in spite of poor weather.
The cottage was everything we expected it to be, exactly as descibed.
Very well modernised with all amenities you would need. The Sky TV was especially welcome with the poor weather!
In a lovely quiet rural area in easy reach of all the towns, and coast, that you would wish to visit in Normandy.
Will recommend to friends

we found the property adequate for the needs of two people but we feel that we would have been disappointed if there had been four persons as the sleeping arrangement was not private enough.
the property was clean and tidy and well equipped.
We do stress that it is an optional 4 and that there is only 1 bedroom
