Large airy and very comfortable villa in a wonderful location above, and close to the centre of Arles which we think is one of the most attractive, unspoilt, villages in that part of the Pyrenees. There are two apartments in the villa buit since the ground floor wasn't occupied we had the place, and the very extensive gardens to ourselves. The villa needs a bit of attention here and there but is exceptionally well equipped and the pool is wonderful, and very well maintained.

very good situated ,breathtaking views, nice swimming pool shops in walking distance.

Spacious and airy villa with a lovely authentic French feel. Very clean and good kitchen features. Private, peaceful balcony with fantastic views over town and mountains. We went in July which although very hot usually got a nice breeze, although some fans would have been ideal for the really days. Great pool for cooling off in the sun and lounging about, which our kids loved. It was difficult to lever them away from it to do other things!
Laid back town with a few quiet bars and restaurants. Surrounding towns are well also worth a visit like Ceret. And of course, the food generally is a treat with reasonable prices in most places we visited.

Positives: Property in excellent location with stunning views from the balcony. Close to town. Quiet and peaceful (except when the circus is in!). Clean and well maintained. Good range of kitchen appliances, many new. Lots of space. Open and airy. Cool in Summer heat. Great pool. Very good welcoming English housekeeper, lives locally. Probably one of the best areas of France we've stayed in. Great for walking. Nice little villages for pootling around. Beaches not too far away.

Negatives: Lack of privacy/use of facilities if the bottom apartment is occupied. Villa shares pool/washing facilities with apartment below.

Hike to wash room from villa & machines often in use when you get there. I rigged up a line and washed by hand mostly.

Shared pool - often in use by other guests. We didn't feel comfortable using the pool when the other guests were using it (they probably felt the same).

We think it's overpriced - stayed in 5 other villas in France and, in comparison, felt that this was expensive. Other villas have had TV, range of childrens/adults games, video, books for all ages, own washing machine, private use of pool, use of boat, bikes, good BBQ, power shower etc. They've all cost quite a lot less than La Paloma.

Would recommend for adults and older children but only if bottom apartment isn't occupied and price is reduced. Ideal for a big group who want to take over the whole property. Not ideal for toddlers and young children - no room to run around. Not ideal for elderley - lot of steps up to the villa.

That said, we did have a very enjoyable holiday and love the location of the villa. We spent some lovely evenings eating out on the balcony, playing pictionary and watching the thunder storms. Great location for chilling out and winding down!

Hi LindaThanks for your useful suggestions. Here are my responses:Washing MachineWe will install a second washing machine for next season in the Villa to avoid the problems you describe.GamesThis is a great idea. We will buy a selection for guests to use.BBQThis is a good suggestion and we will get one.TVWe have resisted this as when we use he Villa with our family we like to encourage them to do other things. Water presure low - could live with it.The view was stunning, the town lovely and the beds good. It was a surprise that the house has two flats, and that we had to share the swimmingpool with another family. It worked out ok, although. The house has all the modern equipment, which is very nice. The house has a "private look" and we felt realy good about staying in the house. The house was still beeing renovated, and paintings, and mirros were standing on the flor instead of hanging on the walls. This was a bid odd to us, these things could have been put away until there is time for putting them in the right places. Standing on the flors just make it look a bit "un tidy" and can harm the paintings/mirros. Nothing happend during our stay, but just in case. Thanks for a lovely week - we would like to meet the owner, he must be a nice person. And one of us are working within the same field as him acording to the supporter "Don". Best regards, Nomi SkovgaardMembers response: Dear NomiThanks you for taking the time to add a review to the website. In response to your comments:Water PressureAs the weather has been so hot this season we have had to top up the pool most days. This can reduce the water pressure little. I will now arrange for this to be done at a time when guests are out of the villa.Pool SharingIt is possible rent the whole house so that you do not have to share the pool. Prices are available on request.Mirrors & PicturesI have arranged for these to be put up at once.I am delighted that enjoyed staying in our home and hope to welcome you back.Kind regardsJohn BiggsOwnerLa Paloma

We live near Epsom in Surrey and run a small training company working with teachers and their pupils in the UK and overseas. We have always loved France and decide to buy our property there in 2004. We spend as much time as we can there during the year and let the house out during the summer. Our children and grandchildren often come with us which adds to the joy of being there.
