House overview - owner's description

Private pool, stunning views, short walk to village. Short drive to coast, close to budget airline destinations.

In 1956 local chiropractor, Mr Boix and his dentist wife chose the site of an old vineyard with views over the picturesque medieval village of Arles sur Tech for the site to create a villa to live in and a separate suite of rooms for them to practice in. When we bought the house in 2003 we converted the practice rooms into extra living accommodation, installed a swimming pool and created extra terraces.

La Paloma now comprises the following accommodation:

  • Villa
Family room with 1 double & 1 single bed and en-suite bathroom
    Double room
    Twin room
Family bathroom with shower & WC
    Separate WC
    Large kitchen/diner
Large lounge with two sofa beds
    Large dinning room

  • Apartment
Family room with 1 double & 1 single bed and vanity unit
    Double room with vanity unit
Lounge diner with one sofa bed
    Kitchen
    Shower
    Separate WC

With this combination the house can provide beds for twelve people with option to use the sofa beds for a further 6 people. Cots available on request.

Grounds & Pool

Built in an old vineyard, La Paloma is surrounded by wonderful grounds with extensive terracing and seating areas for outdoor dinning.

The house has a 9m x 4.5m swimming pool with Roman steps. There is an extensive sunbathing area with plenty of sun beds.

The house has games equipment for badminton and boules as well as a full size table tennis table.

The Area

La Paloma in on the edge of the tiny medieval village of Arles sur Tech, 30 miles inland from Perpignan in South West France.

Family from Camberley, United Kingdom Aug 2015

To begin with I must say that there were 14 of us on holiday together and we had the most brilliant time. The pool area was great and the grandchildren were in it from dawn till dusk....and later sometimes! The village was quiet but had all you need..( the rouchelles are to die for) and the nearby town of Ceret has all anyone needs. To have morning coffee overlooking the village and an evening nightcap on the same veranda was memorable. My son who is 29 said when we arrived home that we should all return again and for a well travelled young man I would say that La Paloma has got something special! Be aware though that there were several flights of steps so for less able bodied or the very old it may prove difficult in the heat. There were a couple of concerns which I raised with the owner and the speed of his response and concern was impressive. Overall my wife, myself, our 4 children, their better halves and our 4 grandchildren had the most wonderful holiday so to the owners we say thank you.

Large Group from Leeds, United Kingdom Jul 2013

A good villa for larger groups in an excellent location, The owner was easy to contact and very helpful. The views are stunning and there is a good variety of attractions and places to visit relatively close by. Local housekeeping and pool team helpful.
On the negative side, fans in the bedrooms would have made us more comfortable at night and some people might find the steps to and from the house and pool difficult. The cleaning standard on arrival could have been better (several random items from previous guests had not been cleaned up) but it it not detract from the stay. The pool needed a lot of attention from the cleaner but it was always swiftly dealt with.
Overall this villa has a lovely feel to it and was perfect for our family group of 12 people ages ranging from 13 to Young adults and 40+

From Langeskov, Denmark Apr 2012

We stayed 16 young people in this villa in mid-April. Although the weather was a little shaky, we had the time of our lives and this place was absolutely perfect. Except that we had a tendency to run a little short on hot water in the shower, everything about this villa exceed our expectations. The location was great, the view over the mountains was absolutely stunning and bedrooms, living-rooms and kitchen were all satisfying. I will not hesitate to rent the place again or recommend it to a friend.

Thank you very much for a wonderful stay,

Kenneth Pedersen

Breath-taking views, beautiful garden - great for barbecues!

From Sidcup, United Kingdom Aug 2010

Ideally positioned with superb views. Spacious rooms
for 11 of us including 4 babies. The whole place was very well equipped.
exe cellent pool and surrounding patio area. Very good side terrace for alfresco meals. Two minor problems sorted very quickly by the maintenance man.
La Paloma is within easy walking distance of local food shops and bars and restaurants.

On the debit side the whole place seemed to need some tender loving care e.g.grubby shower curtains,
window frames in need of a coat of paint, cobwebs mouldy corners etc.

However, overall our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Paloma.

Hi MichaelThanks for your positive comments about La Paloma. The shower curtain has been replaced and the other items you mentioned have been rectified as part of our end of season clean up. We have set up a quality control system to make sure that the condition of La Paloma at the end of the season is up to the same high standards enjoyed by guests at the beginning. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at La PalomaKind regardsJohn BiggsOwner

The property is in a stunning position overlooking the village with views of the foothills of the Pyrenees. The property is very spacious, decor and furniture is oldish but perfectly servicable with ample cooking and dining utensils for 12 people. Lovely terraces for dining on and the swimming pool terrace is great for relaxing or enjoying the pool. Couple of minor issues were attended to directly by the owner who is extremely helpful and attentive to ensuring everything is okay with your stay. This is not a glitzy Spanish villa but a traditional French house where you can relax with children not worrying that something expensive ia about to be broken an ideal base for a family holiday in the beautiful surroundings of the Pyrenees.

We have just returned from a fantastic week at La Paloma - we were 7 adults and 4 children and the house was more than spacious enough. The facilities are as clearly explained, and more than comfortable, with plenty of crockery and cutlery to cater for meals, and the convenience of dishwashers to help with the clean up. The best facility was by far was the pool - separate enough from the house that the kids couldn't accidently fall in - a great feature that was used daily. The BBQ got lots of use, with the dining mostly happening on the main terrace. The house was clean and generally well maintained, although the main villa is better appointed then the apartment downstairs. The only negative was that the TV wasn't getting reception, but that wasn't a significant problem - you're not on holiday to watch TV! The centre of Arles-sur-Tech is only a few minutes' walk away and offers a small Spar store for the essentials, a couple of restaurants and the expected patisserie, charcuterie amongst others. The Abbaye is worth a visit - very beautiful and peaceful. You need to go a little further for a larger supermarket (we went to the one in Céret - about 20 mins drive). The owner (John) is quick to answer questions and in general great to deal with - we will be recommending La Paloma to friends and family looking for a spacious house to accommodate a large group of people, in a beautiful setting and offering great value.

We stayed at La Paloma for 10 days this month. We arrived in the dark - so to wake up to that stunning view in the morning was amazing. There were 12 of us, 7 adults and 5 children and there more than enough space. Plenty of room for us to sit around all the tables, both in and out. The layout was as listed and clean and well maintained, although the villa is slightly more up to date than the apartment. There are rather a few stairs, which was good exercise after all the lovely local cheese and wine but some may struggle with them. Adults and children loved the pool, so much so that we hardly left the villa - great that the pool had gazeboeetc for some shade. Table tennis and mountain bikes got used well too. The village, Arles surles tech, was very handy to walk to for the shops - Spar, butchers, bakers etc and the restaurants were good, altough not open very late as we discovered on our first night! Bigger supermarkets were about 20 mins away. John was very helpful and easily contactable with any queries we did have. We had a great time and would love to go back.

A great property for a large family as you can hire both levels. We stayed with our family of 3 generations and all really enjoyed the house, pool and garden. There are quite a few steps up to the house which is not ideal for elderly parents and little ones, but the views over the mountains are so amazing that it makes it so worth the climb. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped - everything seems to have been thought about . Our 6 children loved the pool, gardens and table tennis table and the board games in the evenings. The location is fantastic as it is so quiet, but you are only a couple of minutes walk from the village with it's shops and cafes. John ,the owner was so very helpful and even found us a local vet for our dog. Overall, a super holiday home in a beautiful area

We live near Epsom in Surrey and run a small training company working with teachers and their pupils in the UK and overseas. We have always loved France and decide to buy our property there in 2004. We spend as much time as we can there during the year and let the house out during the summer. Our children and grandchildren often come with us which adds to the joy of being there.
