House overview - owner's description

House in the Haute Savoie French Alps Overlooking Lake Annecy. Mountains, Ski Slopes, Water Sports, Paragliding, Fishing, Boating. Featured on stage 20 of 'Tour de France' cycle race 2013

You can avail of water activities including swimming, boating, water skiing, sailing, kayaking and
para-gliding on this beautiful lake. A local ski resort within 40 minutes for winter activities such as
snow boarding, skiing and snowshoe walking. You will be within 15 minutes of Annecy town - the Venice of
France with its historic sites. You will be 45 minutes from Cosmopolitan Geneva.

The house overlooks a little hamlet named Paterier and nestles between Mountains and Lake Annecy. This is a farming locality. When at home you will witness Alpine farming activities in the Summer time. Cows with bells being brought down from the mountains for milking, hay being saved, timber being saved for winter fires. You can walk around the roads with lake and mountain views surpassing themselves around every corner. If you are the energetic type you can join with the cyclists who cycle up and down the road. Beautiful Summer weather, butterflies, birds, and Alpine flowers and vegetation make this location heavenly.

Lying 50km to the south of Lake Geneva, Annecy, set on a sparkling turquoise lake, the Lac d’Annecy, is one of the most beautiful and popular resort towns of the French Alps. It enjoyed a brief moment of political and religious importance in the early sixteenth century, when Geneva embraced the Reformation and the Catholic bishop, François de Sales, decamped here with a train of ecclesiastics and a prosperous, cultivated elite.

These days, the delights of the town lie not just in its historical monuments, like the imposing château on the hill or the stronghold of the Palais de l’Île closer to the lake, but also in the stunning scenery. Annecy’s Old Town is a bewitching warren of passages and arcaded houses that date from the sixteenth century and are divided by peaceful little branches of the Canal du Thiou. Many of the houses here are ringed by canal side railings overflowing with geraniums and petunias in summer; added to the cool shade offered by the arcades, these flowers make the town’s pedestrianized streets a delight to wander around on a sunny afternoon.

We enjoyed a very comfortable stay for 1 month. The house is situated in a very peaceful area - loved listening to the cow bells whilst watching the sun dip over the mountains and the stream running alongside the garden. Spacious inside and out and well-equipped with plenty of storage, towels and bedding available for use during our stay. Beautiful views and we had no difficulty locating it. It was about a 20-25 minute round trip in the car to the nearest boulangerie and supermarket so we had to be quite organised with our shopping to limit the number of trips up and down the mountain each day but the views and setting were worth it. Our stay has made us more determined to make a move to the area.
