You will fall in love with the beautiful arctic wilderness of Finnish Lapland. Finland is the greenest country in Europe in terms of fir trees and fells. It also has the cleanest air in Europe.

Akaslompolo is a small village sitting by the Yllas fell. Here is a magical place where dreams come true for big and small, young and the slightly not so young. There is something for everyone. Set above the Arctic Circle, the Yllas fell (718 metres high) is where the Finnish go to ski. 62 slopes (53km), and 30 lifts. Purported to be the best skiing in Finland, and great fell walking in summer, you too can enjoy a vast amount of winter and summer activities unrivalled by any other destination. The scenery is breathtaking at any time of the year. A true winter image of ‘Narnia’.

The village of Akaslompolo is small, peaceful and tranquil, with very friendly residents. A warm welcome awaits you. There is no language barrier as most locals speak good English. There is a very calm and serene atmosphere. There is a well stocked supermarket (easy to self cater), a sports shop, an art gallery, a post office, gift shops, great restaurants, and snowmobiles for younger children at the Lapp Village. There is a spa treatment centre, swimming pools at the local hotels, and even a medical surgery should you require a doctor during your stay. All of these amenities are within a 15 minute walk. And guess who also has a house in the Village, yes, the big man himself. So if you’ve come in search of Father Christmas you’ve come to the right place. Look out for Rudolph and his friends, who can be seen roaming through the village.

The food is great - try local dishes and drink the local non-alcoholic drink of cloudberry juice. If you wish for a local alcoholic drink - try pear cider. Its all good. The hot chocolate is fabulous too around an open fire.

Winter offers downhill and cross country skiing, ski school, snowboarding, snow shoes, huskies, reindeers, the Worlds first Saunagondola and the highest sauna in Finland, snow mobiles, ice fishing, spa, and of course Father Christmas ..... the list is endless. Or simply stand and stare ...... !

Summer involves a back to nature experience for everyone with fell walking and cycling. Such attractions include :- Animal farm nearby, Feelgood Spa, Fishing in the water of Yllas, Conquer Kukas, Around the seven fells, Nature trail to the magic thief valley, Midnight hiking, Canoeing on Akas River, In the arms of the fells, Canoe School, Premium Activity Trio, Reindeer Farm visit, Bus tour to Sarestoniemi Art Gallery and Museum, Sightseeing trip to Pakasaivo - please ask for further details.

The cabin is of a typical Lappish high quality build. It is set within a wooded area just a few moments from the main thoroughfare and from Destination Lapland where you can hire clothing should you wish.

The cabin inside has a luxurious and comfortable feel, with underfloor heating for winter, a private sauna, lounge with open fire, fully fitted kitchen, bathroom, a mezzanine with two further beds and the provision to add extra matresses up here and also a sofa bed is provided.

The cabin is well placed to take in all the activities within the village. The cross country ski trail is all around you, the ski bus stops a few moments away, the Lapp Village is 10 minutes away with childrens snowmobiles, reindeer, Father Christmas, huskies, and a restaurant. If you hire a car you can go further afield to enjoy the scenery or go to the town of Kittila, but there is plenty to do in the village. All excursions can be booked at Destination Lapland where transport is provided for you. Dont forget to look out for the spectacular Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).

Moomins is idyllic and luxurious. Close to village amenities. Ski November/May. Visit Santa's home at any time - not just Christmas. Hot summers!

What can i say? We have all returned from what must be one of the best holidays weve ever had! I must thank you for allowing us to stay in your cabin in Akaslompolo and for the flexibility in accommodating us for 10 days instead of the usual week. The cabin itself was perfect and couldnt have been in a better location. We did however find the dishwasher a bit temperamental this was confirmed by the maintenance staff when they looked at it. We washed-up by hand for the rest of our stay without giving it a second chance. We also arrived to no bed linen and for some reason our mobile phones didnt like the emergency number. Luckily our neighbour was Finnish and was able to help. Nevertheless, this certainly didnt detract in any way. Our main activity was cross country skiing (we chose Lapland for this reason) and we visited more than a fair share of the cafes and trailside shelters, all of which are just fantastic. It didn’t take long before we were sitting amongst other skiers toasting sausages on the open fires! Snow conditions were somewhat variable the coldest it got was -4C during the night and at one point it was +10C. We were told it was a little warm compared to usual for this time of year. Blue skies graced us on all but 2 days when it was a little overcast and the thick ice and compacted snow that covered all of the roads upon our arrival had completely melted to tarmac by departure. We were glad that we hired a car as it gave us the flexibility to go where we wanted when we wanted. Driving is a breeze, easier than at home and the winter conditions are no problem for studded tyres. I should add though that the automated filling stations don’t like UK credit/debit cards. I would advise to take cash as the machines accept notes (you have to pay in advance so work out how much fuel you need as you don’t get change) All in all a fantastic trip!!!! We are already looking at dates for a return visit next April and would love to stay in your cabin again if possible. Many thanks once again, The Cooper Family, Aberdeenshire
Just wanted to say a huge thanks for the cabin etc..we had the most amazing time and we haven’t had that much fun for years. The taxi lady was most helpful at the airport (as our guitars didn't arrive until the next day) and the transfer home was smooth running too. The ski-doos were a huge highlight for the two of us which we hired several times. Unfortunately, we were unable to take a husky ride as the snow was too soft for them but we'll definitely do that next time. We took a late night excursion on the ski-doos to a small hut in the middle of nowhere, where we had coffee and pastry's with a Swiss couple and told adventure stories etc. It was probably a little over priced but we're glad we did it as probably wouldn't have ventured that far into the forest at night alone! The cabin was just lovely!! You really do have a lovely holiday home there in a superb location. We felt really at home and enjoyed the sauna immensely! Regarding the Northern lights, they were definitely dancing about during the week, of which we had a glimpse through the clouds, but unbelievably, Sat evening was crystal clear all night and nothing occurred. We really weren't too disappointed though as after 24 hours of being in Lapland we knew we'd want to return some day.Lastly, thanks so much for all your help leading up to our visit and we really hope that you'll allow us to rent your fabulous cabin again some day..we'd really love to return. We honestly didn't expect to love Lapland as much as we did...We too challenge anyone to go there and not have an amazing time. We certainly did! Thanks, thanks and thanks again for helping make our holiday a real fabulous adventure. The Shelleys – Hampshire, UK. April 2010
We had the best holiday of our lives in a most stunning, tranquil, part of the world. Moomins cabin was wonderful, set in beautiful woodland yet close to the local amenities such as gift shops, supermarket and excursion booking agents. The cabin was spotlessly clean, modern, warm and cosy. It contained everything you needed for a relaxing time and the log fire was a real feature. It was so peaceful sitting by the fire in the evening, reading and being able to hear absolutely nothing! The sauna too was a bonus and a fab way to end the day. The Finnish people all spoke English and were very friendly. The two restaurants we frequented, Julli's and Poro served fantastic food and were only slightly more expensive than UK prices. The excursions however were expensive and we were slightly nervous about booking them in case we were disappointed but we can assure you they were worth every single penny. We were lucky enough to do a husky ride (mind blowing), snow mobiling (exhilarating), seeing Santa (wonderful) and visiting Llainio Ice Hotel (fascinating). We can't really list them in favourite order because they were all amazing and equally enjoyable. Even if we hadn't done any of these things the children would still have been happy just playing and sledding in the snow, which is what they did the total rest of the time! The temperature was around ᆲ for the first three days which did hinder us a bit - we were in and out more in short bursts. It then went up to ᆣ which was a lot more pleasant and we were able to do the longer excursions on those days. The local area/shops were so clean and uncrowded they were a delight to visit and the views all around the village were beautiful. The lack of day light was a novelty and the candles and lights that lit up the surrounding area were very tasteful and pretty. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely love to return. It really was a magical holiday made of dreams. One downside we encountered - we did a reindeer ride up at the Lapp Village which was very expensive at. 80 euros for a 2 or 3 minute ride in a circle. Suzanne and Family, UK
We had a magical christmas holiday made all the more special by this stunning accomodation. Everything we could wish for was provided, and it was beautifully laid out and decorated. All the facilities were excellent, the sauna, the clothes dryer, dishwasher, tv etc.... Our children really enjoyed sleeping on the mezzanine, and the log fire was the perfect way to end a day in the snow. The cabin is close to all amenities in the village and is set in a beautiful area. I think this accomodation was excellent value for money and I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Lapland. p.s - this is the nice part of lapland and is not set in a rowdy, tacky area, it is indeed a truly magical place!!!!
The property was absolutely perfect for our needs, and we had an extremely pleasant stay. Glad we stayed there rather than in one of the hotels that all seemed functional but had very little character. I would recommend it to anyone planning to visit the region, close to all the amminities, walking distance in fact, and a really cosy cabin.
