Beautiful apartment in Quito with fantastic views over Guapulo, just 2 minutes walk from Hotel Quito. Wifi, cable TV. Fully equipped. Very secure.
is situated in a small block of eight similar flats, located near the top of the steep winding road leading down to the historic village of Guapulo. It is located on the lower ground floor, and the natural lie of the hill means that both the living room and bedroom enjoy panoramic views over Guapulo and the valley beyond. On a clear day you can just see the massive volcano Cayambe on the horizon.
It has a living room, bathroom, kitchen with breakfast bar, laundry and a double bedroom with shower room en suite (see the attached floor plan for layout). Outside it has a dedicated parking space, and the building has its own security guard. The flat caters for 2 in the double bedroom, although it is possible to sleep another two on the sofa bed in the living room, but visitors should note there is only one shower (off the main bedroom).
The flat is well equipped -the kitchen has a modern fridge/freezer, gas cooker, electric grill, and pretty well most things you might need to create a dinner party. In the laundry there is a new top loading washing machine, drying line, iron and ironing board, and vacuum cleaner. The bedroom has cable TV, and extensive wardrobe space. In the living room there is the settee and two comfortable swivel chairs. It also has a dining area with table and chairs for up to six people.
There is a wifi internet connection for visitors who bring their own computer.
The price includes the cleaning of the flat and change of bedding once a week.
The apartment is located in the best area of town just 200 m from the the five star Hotel Quito (you can use their pool and gym facilities for around $16 a day). This is a quieter area away from the traffic and pollution of Colonial Quito -doubly so now the airport has been relocated out of Quito.
Near the hotel in the elegant Av Gonzales Suarez are a number of shops including small supermarkets, chemist, laundry and bakery. Also just 50m down the hill you will find a delightful local store selling fresh bread, drinks and other everyday items from 7.00 in the morning. If you prefer a more cosmopolitan shopping experience then a short taxi ride will take you to Megamaxi the largest superstore in Quito and the Quicentro Shopping Centre where you can buy pretty well anything.
Just at the top of the hill, 150m from the flat, is the local bar El Mirador de Guapulo which serves typical bar snacks and cocktails and looks out over the Sanctuario de Guapulo, the oldest colonial church in Quito. On many evenings there is live music in the bar. Alternatively a taxi ride of around two dollars will take you into the popular Mariscal Area of town with its many restaurants, bars, shops and other interesting sights.
Quito and Further Afield
Quito has much to offer the visitor. It makes a great starting point for a visit to Ecuador. If you are planning a longer tour of South America it is a good place to acclimatise to the altitude and perhaps do an intensive Spanish course at one of the many schools in town. From Quito you can book trips to Indian markets (Otavalo is one and a half hours by car), the cloud forest (Mindo is renowned for the variety of butterflies), the thermal pools at Papallacta and the jungle via Baños.
For the more adventurous, you might try white water rafting in the cloud forest and jungle, scuba diving on the Galapagos or climbing the great volcanoes. And for anyone with an interest in nature, Ecuador displays an extraordinary diversity, with 1640 species of birds, 4500 species of butterfly, and 358 species of amphibians (15% of the worlds total).
Quito was the first UNESCO world heritage city and is the Ibero-america City of Culture 2004. A visit to the restored colonial old town is well worth doing, especially at night when Quitos many historic churches are illuminated. There are also a wide range of museums and galleries, including the Fundacion Guayasamin. Alternatively you might choose to sample the atmosphere at a local football match at the Atahualpa Stadium.
In the evening you might visit the National Theatre Sucre, and there are a number of good restauarants, bars and clubs in nearby La Floresta or the more touristic Mariscal Area.
Whatever your interests, Ecuador is a fascinating country.
We have rented this apartment two years in a row and simply love it. It is quiet, bucolic, well appointed, comfortable and in the best location in Quito. Giant picture windows in both the bedroom and living room look on to nature, flowers, trees, hummingbirds, cultivated fields, the Cumbaya valley and snowcapped Cayambe in the distance. The location is terrific. A ten minute walk up the hill takes you to to Gonzalez Suarez St. with its many coffee shops, ice cream parlors and bakeries. Close by on Isabelle la Catolica St. are many more restaurants, Noe, El Esmeraldas, el Espigon to name a few. The Hotel Quito which is just up the hill has a swimming pool and gym facilities which you can pay to use. The apartment managers, Ruthie and Jorge are extremely helpful and left us with some basic foods so we didnt have to scramble in the morning for breakfast. They also will pick you up at the airport, for a fee, and bring you directly to the apartment which we did and I highly recommend it. Another add on is the cleaning lady that comes in every Wednesday. We did a lot of cooking at home and found the kitchen to be very well equipped and the produce and fish delicious.( Super Maxi and a friday street market by the Pobre Diablo restaurant.) Enjoy!

A wonderful property in a very convenient location - easy walking distance of a few restaurants/bars, panaderias, shops, internet cafes,...
The views over the Cumbaya valley are truly awesome - I wonder where the vultures landed to feed.
The wildlife outside the picture windows kept us enthralled - did the bright yellow, black and white grossbills ever settle down and breed? How do hummingbirds manage to keep their wings moving so fast? Are the butterflies really that colourful?
The apartment is very well appointed and in excellent decorative order. Ruthy and her son Jorge were very helpful with the transfers. If only José (one of the guards) spoke more slowly I'm sure I'd have understood more than 'Como esta?'.
Gill was enthralled at the local lady washing her clothes on a stone 'washboard' but declined my offer to buy her one - Irena (the weekly maid) also preserred to use the washing machine and electric iron.
Would definitely recommend - apart from the period I want to book for next time!

A superbly situated property with fabulous views. A warning about precipitous driving would be advantageous! A well-equipped villa but a little chilly and the hot water system for showers took a bit of getting used to. The T.V. channels did not exist, there were only 3 available, not cable and satellite as advertised in the property details. These are only small gripes, overall a good place to stay.

Very nice apartment, well kept and a fantastic welcome basket of the key essentials such as tea and coffee on arrival - a lovely touch. The flat was clean, quiet and had fantastic views across Guapulo. Everything that was needed for an enjoyable stay was provided. The owners went out of their way to assist for which we are very grateful. A definite recommendation for anyone looking to stay in Quito.

Very much enjoyed our stay. Apartment was clean and we were very appreciative of the nice gift basket of treats.
Our only suggestions would be to supply bath cloths and provide phone numbers for local apartment contacts. The numbers given would not work on the local phone.
Overall, we were very pleased, had a great experience in Ecuador and would definitely use this property again.

I want to add that the security staff at the building were pleasant and helpful, the cleaning staff did an amazing job and my overall impression of the apartment was that it was comfortable and pleasant witrh a fantastic view. I am very very impressed with how the whole transaction was handled, from the ease of navigating the web-site all the way through to the end when we returned the keys. The experience has planted the seed in my head that I would like to do the same with my apt here in the USA when I plan to live in Ecuador
This is just a note to say thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your lovely flat! We had a wonderful time-we visited Cuenca, Banos and Otavalo and went hiking around the Quilatoa Lake. We didn't manage to get down to the jungle but figure Ecuador is definitely a place we'll be returning to (hopefully sooner rather than later!)Thanks againSian and LaurenceMexico
We got back to the states just last Wednesday night. Wanted to let you know we had a great time in Ecuador and enjoyed the apartment tremendously. The little store at the bottom of the hill was a great resource and the views were wonderful.Jaime -San Jose, CA
We have arrived safely in quito and were met by Ruthy and other members of the family which was fantastic! The flat is georgous we absolutely love having the haven in the mountains it feels so different from down in the city. We are far too comfortable there it would be easy not to go out. Everyone is incredibly friendly and patient with our desperate spanish. Jim has been really helpful and gave us a contact for a tour operator that he knows so we booked our Galapagos trip today and are going from 11th -18th December. We will leave quito again on the 19th heading for Banos where we plan to cycle into the jungle, do a rafting trip and wallow in hot springs. We will probably be in Otavalo region for christmas and hopefully with be able to stay in the Casa Mojanda. I really fancy the horse riding in the mountains. CM Bath
Just a quick note to say that I spoke to Matt last night and he said that the flat is lovely - very comfortable with beautiful views. He also asked me to thank you for the little basket of coffee, wine etc that was left. Thanks again for all your help.CG Somerset
Yes thankyou we had a lovely time in Ecuador - the apt in Guapulo is lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there, particularly the views! Could have stayed another month easily! Thank you to you and also to Ruthy for being flexible and enabling us to stay a few more days following our tour around the country.FG York
The flat is more than I could have hoped for. I have almost everything I need and Ruthy and her son Jorge have made sure I am happy and that everything here is perfect. All of my friends here are jealous that I have such a nice place to stay and I can say for certain that apart from my current home in the US this is the nicest place I have ever stayed. The view is so beautiful! I don't see how I could want for anything more than this apartment!! Thanks for your inquiry and for the apartment!JJ Texas
With an easterly aspect, the flat has fabulous views down over the the historic Church of Guapulo, and the sun streams in over the distant mountains at sunrise -on a clear day you can see the snow capped peak of the volcano Cayambe.
Please be aware that Quito is at altitude and the surrounding area is hilly so acclimatisation is recommended before doing strenuous activity.
Ideally suited for a couple, the flat can take four people by using the sofa bed in the living room, but you should be aware there is only one shower.
