Cottage overview - owner's description

This cottage is a beautiful stylish property with a sea view and only 100 yds to the beach.

Treetops is your own special Caribbean hideaway.
Toucari Bay is a perfect little Caribbean cove. From the sea there is a small beach and then the coconut palm lined coast road. Behind the road are the 40 or so dwellings of the village and right on the road are the 4 brightly painted 'Rum Shops'. These act as both convenience stores for essentials, bars serving local rums and the national beer - Kubuli - and, at the weekend, the village focus for music and food.
Here is where you can meet the real people of Dominica, hang out like a local and try some barbeque fish right on the beach.
Treetops was built in 2014 by local craftsmen. The structure is all timber with large doors and windows to let through the cooling breeze and to ensure you feel close to the nature that surrounds you.
Toucari reef that runs the full width of Toucari bay is one of the island's top scuba diving sites. It is also shallow enough to enjoy with just a snorkel and mask.
The beautiful corals, fans and sponges plus a huge variety of exotic fish are easily accessed from the beach at either end of the bay. You can walk down from Coconut Cottage in just a few minutes.
On the left of the bay is a shallow reef leading to a rock wall and round to a huge bat cave. In the centre are constant streams of volcanic bubbles rising up from the sand as if you are swimming in champagne. And on the right are large rocks and corals rising up from the bottom populated with thousands of tropical fish.

Staying at Treetops was like being in Paradise! We were a 2 minute walk down the hill to the black sand beach and the village of Toucari. Our view was of the Toucari Bay - and because we faced west - we had fabulous sunsets every evening - right from our deck! The small house had everything we needed - a kitchen with all the utensils you might need for holiday cooking - a very comfortable bed with a net around it - a bathroom and shower - an outside water supply to wash off the sand before entering the house, 2 decks, and a comfortable sitting area. We didn't need AC - we kept the windows and doors open at night and with the ceiling fans and the floor fan - it was very comfortable. We bought groceries in Portsmouth on our way through there from the airport. There are several rum shops in Toucari where you can buy only the very basics in groceries. There is a shelf of books in the cottage - we left 2 of ours and also read a few of theirs. Caso was our go-to person whenever we needed information. He is a friendly, knowledgeable, gentle person who was most anxious for us to have a wonderful time. He took us on a hike to some recently discovered falls, he took us snorkelling to the shipwreck and the reef, and a general sail down the coast. Because he has always lived there, he knows a lot! He supplied us with freshly cut coconuts every day - what else could a person want! We loved Treetops and were so sorry when our vacation there was over. It was so relaxing......

It was PERFECT! The most lovely cottage with everything we needed in the most beautiful location. I couldn't bear to leave and can't wait to come back.

Very nice property, all we need was there. Good shower, a quality bed, complete kitchen and clean. The view was fabulous. Toucari is a small village with lovely people. The snorkletour with Caso was wonderfull in Toucari and exploring waterfalls or nature its nice place to stay. Portsmouth is close by where you can find everything, restaurants, supermarket. But very nice is a diner at Keeping it real by Derrick. We liked Dominca and specially this area, its very original and less of tourism.

Just returned from our stay at Treetops, amazing time. The cottage was excellent, and the local people of Dominica were outstanding. Caso and his family are wonderful. The Toucari Bay and Keepin it Real are truly a place to spend your time. Embrace the opportunity to drive around the area, lots of great beaches, food and hikes.

Very nice and relaxing little place. It is nice to see how our nights can be dark with all these beutiful stars when the rain lets us a little time out! We feel in nature and can really see how the local live with goats, dogs, hens and the rooster!! We also have a daily concert with the frogs and insects! We personally loved it. From the balcony, we saw many humming birds and other nice birds. The trees and forest is very interesting also. A nice biodiversity.
The Toucari bay is one of the nicest place around but there is (sadly) a big local garbage problem. Some other parts of the island were very clean and we feel that people realise the importance of not throwing plastic and other garbage all around like in Toucari. As we arrived with a period of big rainfalls, the water in the bay was quite fuggy with sediments and garbage. There is lots of fishes and interesting life but we really felt like the coral reefs are having problems. My husband saw the place 30 years ago and told me he felt a huge decrease in marine life. This is the case of many other places in the world but there seems to be a will to save this beauty in Dominica. Time will tell if it works!

The little house was perfect with the hamac on the balcony. We were surprised not having so much biting insects for a rainy time but the net over the bed was very helpful ! We had to close lights and doors at night to be even safer. Small ants are just waiting for the after meal party...so clean everything as soon as possible. It is however perfectly normal in these countries!
I think that we took the place after a little while unoccupied so we had to fix a few things with Casso (Son's son!) who was very nice and helpful. The place now seems top shape for the next ones! We had to wash all dishes, utensils, pots and ask for gas to be able to start the cooker! I like to cook and found all what I needed! It is however poor in all first necessity items like condiments or cleaning (no soap, even for dishes, no rag, broom, cooking spices or other things like that).
We could not reach the wifi even if it is supposed to be there. It comes from another cottage and we could not access it.
We found locals very nice and never felt like we were in danger like at some other places. Speaking of dangers, we were very happy to do the road by daytime between the airport ant Toucari as this narrow road was very affected by the recent Erica tropical storm and can be very dangerous! We found "Classique international" to be a nice hotel very close to the airport at arriving and departure time.
So we are overall very happy with our stay at Treetops! All our contacts with the owner were very helpfull and well responded! Thank you.

Treetops couldn't have been more perfect for our short stay in Toucari. the cozy place is perfect for two, but probably no more. The balcony deck was where we spent most of our time and it was lovely watching the hummers flitting among the blossoms, and watching the gulls and pelicans in Toucari Bay...sunsets were beautiful until the mosquitos chased us in, but we were warned and dealt with them easily enough.
A couple of minor items...it would be nice to have a few basics on-hand, such as sugar, coffee, salt. Also, the Wifi from the nearby property was very spotty. All in all a wonderful gettaway location.
