The small village of Toucari is tucked away in the north-west corner of the tropical island of Dominica.
Coconut Cottage is the perfect place for discovering the beauty and wonders of this unspoilt nature island. Situated on the hillside just a few minutes’ walk from the village and bay, Coconut Cottage has that million-dollar Caribbean view that completes any tropical vacation.
Welcome to Coconut Cottage, a traditionally designed Caribbean home with modern convenience and an indisputable feeling of being somewhere really special.
This traditionally styled cottage is situated on the hillside right in the centre of Toucari Bay with a breathtaking view of the sparkling Caribbean Sea and the lush mountains. Built in 2013 by local craftsmen from the village of Toucari, the structure is all timber with cool tiled floors. You will feel like you have stepped into a real Caribbean home when you enter this airy, sunlight-filled cottage.
Described by the British Admiralty for hundreds of years as the most northerly safe anchorage on Dominica, Toucari Bay is a perfect little Caribbean cove. From the sea there is a small beach and then the coconut palm lined coast road. Behind the road are the 40 or so dwellings of the village and right on the road are the 3 or 4 brightly painted 'Rum Shops'. These act as both convenience stores for life's essentials, bars serving local rums and the national beer - Kubuli - and, at the weekend, the village focus for music and food.
Here is where you can meet the real people of Dominica, hang out like a local and try some barbeque fish right on the beach.

Our stay at coconut cottage was very pleasant - wonderful. The House is beautiful with functional furnishings. The location is ideal, as far enough from the beach away, to feel loud party music not as disturbing and close enough to go to the beach on foot. The view from the terrace is stunning: Caribbean as in the promotional brochure with sailing boats and sunsets. Only the barking dogs disturbing sometimes.
Caso is a very helpful pleasant man with nice children.
Toucari is probably the most beautiful place with beach in the Northwest of the island. Great for snorkelling, to swim in the bubbles of the fumarole to the rocks with colourful fish and coral. On the beach in the "Keeping it Real" you can wonderfully hang out, drink beer or punch and eat fish or lobsters. "
We hope that everything stays as it is.
Our stay at Coconut Cottage was by far greater than we could have imagined. The cottage was very comfortable with a constant breeze flowing through. Son and Caso were very helpful getting us situated. The vicinity to the beach was also great. Just a short hike down the hill to reach the "Keeping it Real" bar on the beach. This place is great. We did some fishing and Derek and Shelton would cook up our fresh catches beautifully! The cottage is located in a beautiful calm bay with excellent shore snorkeling. Close enough to Portsmouth for some shopping but far enough away to feel secluded. Looking forward to maybe coming back one day!
This is our second time at the Coconut Cottage. We absolutely love it here and Toucarie Bay! The home is well equipped, comfortable and now has a/c in the King bedroom which is a huge plus. The sunsets from the deck are some of the most stunning in the Caribbean! Our children really enjoyed the neighbor's cats and dogs that would come over once in a while to say hi. The caretakers, Son and Caseo, welcomed us warmly and remembered us from the year prior. They are so friendly and knowledgeable. Be sure to take Caseo's boat and snorkeling tour of Toucari Bay. There is a shipwreck and a cave to explore. Take a quick walk down to the village of Toucarie from the cottage and experience a fabulous meal at Keepin' It Real or Toucarie Beachfront Bar & Grill. Great fresh food and vibes! We danced the night away at Toucarie Beachfront Bar & Grill and the next day rented kayaks and paddle boards from Derek @ Keepin' It Real. We can't wait to go back!
We had a really good week at this place. The house is as described with a nice village and very friendly people around. The local beach offers an excellent possibility to snorkel. We have used the kitchen frequently for cooking our diner and having opulent breakfasts. The kitchen was sufficiently staffed, sometimes we wished to have some more cutlery. For two maybe ok, but for four persons it is on the limit. The shower was one of the best we saw during our caribbean trip: spacious, with high water pressure and always hot when wanted. Be aware that there is a TV screen available but you cannot receive any program. This shouldn't be a problem at such a nice place, but it was Olympia time and we wanted to see some sport events. Fortunately the WIFI was quite good and sufficient for streaming. Getting some sleep was a little bit a problem for us, because the dogs are usually barking until late after midnight whereas the roosters start to make noise very early way before dawn. Since the animals are around the house even earplugs don't help. When it is raining at night the dogs come into their house and it is more silent. Nevertheless besides this we can fully recomment to rent this nice house.
Thanks for the enjoyable time staying there!

The house is small but nice and matches the description well. Beautiful views of the bay! The neighbor below (Son) and family are a very nice, but they can get a bit loud in the evenings!
We loved hanging out on the deck after a long day, and spent a lot of time with Dereck at Keepin It Reel for lunches and dinner. The location is excellent for ask activities we had planned.
Only two complaints, the master bed is ridiculously squeaky, it woke me up all night long any time you move. And there were some rather large "bugs" in the cabin and kitchen. We had to check our luggage well before we left. One of them had stowed away in our backpack. I realize it's the Caribbean and can live with it.
We had a great time overall!
