Cottage overview - owner's description
A taste of the real Caribbean. A big open wooden cottage with local hardwood shutters and no windows, just numerous large openings onto the surrounding fruit and flower gardens.
Mango Lodge is the perfect place for discovering the beauty and wonders of this unspoilt nature island. Situated on the hillside just a few minutes’ walk from the village and bay, Mango Lodge nestles in a sea of green with a sense of seclusion but not isolation.
This traditionally styled, cottage is situated on the hillside in the centre of Toucari Bay views of the sparkling Caribbean Sea and the lush mountains. Hand built in 2002 the structure is local timber cut by chainsaw with wooden sidings and cool tiled floors. You will feel like you have stepped into a real Caribbean house when you enter this airy, sunlight-filled cottage.
Toucari bay is the first safe anchorage on Dominica for vesssels coming from the north. From the sea there is a small beach and then the coconut palm lined coast road. Behind the road are the 40 or so dwellings of the village and right on the road are the 3 or 4 brightly painted 'Rum Shops'. These act as both convenience stores for life's essentials, bars serving local rums and the national beer - Kubuli - and, at the weekend, the village focus for music and food.
Here is where you can meet the real people of Dominica, hang out like a local and try some barbeque fish right on the beach.

My wife and I spent a very enjoyable eight days at this property in late July, 2016.
The bungalow is well situated on a hill, some 4-5 minutes walk from the beach, amid very lush, tropical surroundings.
We awoke each morning to the sounds of birds, insects and the local roosters.
We found the property clean and well equipped with all the necessities.
A vehicle (preferably 4x4) is a must, if you want to explore the island.
The neighbour/caretaker was very congenial and his sons took us snorkelling over a nearby sunken wreck.
We did find the main bedroom somewhat warm at night and so we purchased a fan.
However, we gifted it to the caretaker upon our departure.
The only improvement I can think of would be to install a fan in the master bedroom.
There is a lot to see and do all over the island and we found the people friendly and helpful.
There are lots of restaurants within a 10 or 15-minute drive, and there is a well-stocked IGA about 12 minutes away.
I have no hesitation in recommending the Mango lodge to any prospective travellers to this idyllic island.
Une magnifique propriété, merveilleusement bien équipée et d'accès facile. Nous n'avions pas vraiment envie d'en partir.
Great place to live a true dominican experience! Confort and style in a remote place in the middle of beautiful nature.
Had a lovely 10 day stay at mango lodge. It was just perfect...house is nicely decorated and has everything there. No tv in the house is often a good sign for me...we were more than content just sitting on the terrace. 2 minutes to the beach where it is great to swim... for sunbathing and lounging on beach it's only a few minutes drive. We love fishing so it was ideal Locals were very friendly and sold us fish (when we didn't catch enough! Very peaceful holiday and definitely won't be the last here! Son(keyholder) was a mighty fine chap. His son Richardson, took us out on a boat trip...to do more fishing. Local guy Noah was very helpful and a real laugh. All in all an ideal place to stay if you are looking for a holiday away from the usual tourist rubbish then this is definitely a good place. Portsmouth has plenty going if you want though. Iguana cafe run by a lovely rastafarian couple was one of our favourites, although many other options for local food are available. Reggae night by the purple turtle was our one night out...and it was awesome!
All in all, thanks very much and look forward to returning.

Très bel endroit. Terrasse vraiment agréable. Le problème est que le ménage laissait vraiment à désirer. Dommage.
