PETRA TOU ROMIOU
Close to Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley you will find one of the most photographed scenes in Cyprus, Petra Tou Romiou more commonly known as Aphrodite’s Birth Place. The dramatic rocks look like monumental tear drops in the ocean and are backdrop to the mythological setting where Aphrodite emerged from the waves! You may prefer just to take in the view or if you feel a little more adventurous perhaps climb the largest of the tear dro p rocks or swim around it 3 times to be blessed with Aphrodite’s famed eternal beauty! (Legend may claim this to be true but I think it was her last laugh!!)
Perched on the hillside, the views from Pissouri village and its surroundings are spectacular.
Pissouri has a quaint, unique character bestowed by winding cobbled streets lined with charming rustic houses. The Cypriot character has certainly been retained and is what attracts so many visitors.
There is an exceptional choice of restaurants and taverns offering a wide range of cuisine Pissouri really does have it all from ice creams palours to exquisite fine dining there are restaurants for all occasions!
During the summer there is a traditional Cyprus night in the lovely pedestrianised village square, with dancing and music. It is hosted by the 3 restaurants and their collaboration creates an incredible party atmosphere that is so infectious you can’t help but be drawn into the merriment! There is much Greek Dancing and entertaining whilst you dine underneath the stars and later a DJ with a live band take the evening into the early hours! Although the idea is perhaps to provide entertainment for Pissouri’s visitors, it is also true that a significant number of those present every week are the villagers themselves! Here you can truly enjoy an authentic Cyprus evening but as you can imagine the evenings are so popular that early booking is essential!!
KOURION BEACH AND AMPHITHEATRE
The ancient Hellenistic Kourion Theatre which sits on the top of a hill overlooks the glistening Mediterranean Sea, was constructed probably around the late 2nd century A.D.
The magnificent presence of this ancient relic resonates of times gone by and over the years it’s stage featured raging gladiators as well as plays and operas.
The view from Kourion Ampitheatre is nothing short of spectacular and at its feet you will find the ever popular Kourion Beach. (sometimes spelled Curium). Kourion is a sandy blue flag beach with a gentle shoreline. It can however be a little windier here and as there are no wave breaks it is a great place for wind surfing, kite boarding and even hand gliding.
There are 3 restaurants on the beach and I have to be extremely bias on this occasion and show my loyalty to Chris’s Blue Bar and Restaurant, which is the middle one. This Beach restaurant has recently been refurbished and offers sun loungers, fantastic shower and changing facilities. The restaurant has a varied menu but genuinely it would be a shame to miss the delicious fresh fish on offer. Choose your own fish from the chilled displays or order a great bottle of wine and let wave upon wave of Fish Meze come to you. Believe me when I say that you will not need to eat again that day!
Kourion is a great day out and you will find more locals than tourists on the beach. As Kourion is close to Fasouri Water Park, it can also be a civilised way to end a day of water mayhem!
TROODOS AND MOUNTAIN VILLAGES
Cyprus is one of the few places where you are able to walk on sun-kissed beaches in the morning and ski on snow-capped mountains in the afternoon. In the summer months, Troodos is a cool, welcomed retreat from the coastal heat and there are many activities to pursue from woodland pony rides to cycling and walks on dappled pathways leading to hidden waterfalls.
Winter time offers a magical wonderland where you can sip delicious hot chocolate made on location in Platres, have skiing or snowboarding lessons, hire sledges for some real family fun or simply build a snowmen! Wintertime in Troodos is a main attraction for tourists and locals alike and the village square is bustling with people purchasing hot honey nuts and sampling Commandaria wine.

We really enjoyed a very relaxing stay at Villa Lignea and will be booking again around the same time next year (end March). We arranged the transport from the airport which was available but at 30 euros each way we found this overpriced and will just get a taxi next time. However the pickup was on time and excellent just a bit pricey for such a short journey. There was a substantial welcome pack on arrival, bread, milk, cheese, ham, coffee, tea, wine etc which was much appreciated. There is a very good supermarket about 15 min drive away which we used a lot. The garage for petrol is near there too. The Villa is gorgeous and has a big pool which unfortunately for us was freezing which I expected. The weather was hot when we were there but it was too early in the season for the pool to have warmed up. It will be a lovely pool to swim in during the summer. The Villa is well equipped with, TV, WiFi, CD player and the kitchen is great. We ate out for lunch and ate at the Villa in the evenings and it was a pleasure to cook in the kitchen. The included car is a real bonus and much needed. It was a Honda which was very reliable and easy to drive. My only slightly negative aspect of our holiday was that unfortunately the expats in the villa next door but one had two dogs who yapped a lot at everything and sometimes early in the morning. I tried not to let them get on my nerves but they did! ( it could have been a lot worse as a lot of Cypriots keep hunting dogs who are really noisey. ) For me it would have been a great help to have a folder in the Villa detailing how everything worked eg it was really cold the night we arrived and we couldn't work the heating and there weren't any instructions, likewise a few other things we were unfamiliar with like the CD player. I had to ring Louise several times and eventually the equipment was sorted out. ,
Another great holiday in secret valley, great villa highly recommended value for money with the free car hire which is very needed,Louise did everything to make our stay fantastic! Will be returning
Villa Lignea was great, for the money we paid you really could not of asked for better!! Louise was a pleasure to deal with and dealt with everything we needed perfectly. The area is very quiet and peaceful, a car is 100% needed as there is nowhere within walking distance to eat or buy supplies. The villa itself had everything we needed to have a great time, the pool was cleaned twice a week during our stay which was great!! Everything was organised for us perfectly, we were collected at the airport and transferred to the villa, the car was waiting on the drive when we arrived and after a very relaxing two weeks we were collected and returned to the airport!! I would highly recommend this to anyone, from groups of friends or couples to families.
Villa Lignea is a really well maintained villa with excellent facilities. It is an ideal base for a relaxing holiday. As it is situated in the Secret Valley development a car is vital to get about - lucky therefore that one is provided as part of the package. The customer support we received during our stay was superb - there if you required it - but not intrusive. We would have no hesitation in staying at this property again.
This villa I would recommend to anyone looking for peaceful and relaxing holiday .The pool was amazing clean for all the family to enjoy The free car hire included was needed but was not a honda crv as said but a honda jazz bit of a problem when there was 6 of us but did not spoil our holiday we had a great time at villa Lignea
