From High Wycombe, United Kingdom Aug 2004

A very good gite, well situated in a village with boulangerie, tabac and restaurant.
Good location for the many delights of the region and with the added bonus of a warm welcome from the resident owners.

Valerio

From Terni, Italy

When we arrived at the villa, Yusof, the helpful assistant, showed us all the rooms and we couldnt believe it was so big! There were 14 people in our party, made up of a family with children, married couples and single friends everyone of us had its own space and privacy and, at the same time, we also had comfortable spaces to stay together, like the living room with kitchen in The House that jack built, where we had breakfast, the terrace in the Mountain Villa, where we had dinner and BBQ, and the pool area, where we used to have fresh air after dinner.
The villas have typical cypriot forniture, we liked it so much, and a wonderful view on Bellapais Abbey and Kyrenia seaside.
Good value for money, good stay, helpful assistance for everything, we definitely recommend it to whom is looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday, and as a strategic point to discover all the beauties of Northern Cyprus.

These were our very first guests from Italy and we are very happy that they enjoyed our unique village and our unique property. Cyprus has changed so much in the 50 years since my father built "The house that Jack built" and yet Cypriot original values and spectacular locations are still hidden away behind the massive new build on the Kyrenia plains below. We are so very pleased to have found another happy family of visitors discerning enough to have spotted the difference. Thanks indeed to Valerio for leading his family group to Carmichael cottages, Bellapais.!

The Carmichael property commands spectacular views across the village of Bellapais and down to the sea. The three separate "cottages" have been well renovated and have all necessary conveniences to make a stay relaxed and comfortable for groups both large and small. Property ideal for those who like to be in the midst of a traditional Cypriot village while enjoying the opportunity to walk in the hills above the cottage, relax in the many good bars and restaurants in Bellapais, or hit the tourist trail and explore the world of Lawrence Durrell or the more normal attractions such as Bellapais Abbey, Kyrenia Castle (and town), St Hilarion Castle and Lara beach. A fantastic location, a fantastic holiday!

The whole family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bellapais and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone

Another perfect fit for our Bellapais villas. A multi-generational family group of ten having a great time in high summer with virtually every meal outside and a cool pool to relax in and enough shadey corners , sunny terraces and hideway places for everyone to have their own space and yet big enough family dining and board game playing places for everyone to get together round one table when desired.

Richard

From Devizes

A charming and comfortable property, well appointed and sufficiently large for our near-capacity party not to feel crowded. The villas' location affords easy access to both coastal and mountain attractions, and is only a very short walk from the Abbey and numerous restaurants. We found the villagers very friendly. In summary, a superb base for a most enjoyable holiday.

Our Bellapais property is increasingly a unique undisturbed corner of Cyprus with the rarities of a fantastic 360 degree view and an ancient village with very real 12th century abbey and proud and welcoming villagers both Cypriot and other nationalities. The property works best for a multi generational family group like Richard from Devizes' family but would also be great for couples and individuals sharing the same interest- for example holidays such as geology, antiquities, painting, walking or springtime wildflowers. As much of the island appears under construction at times, it is lovely to return at the end of the day to the tranquility of upper Bellapais or even to stay in all day just relaxing. It is really appreciated by us who spent our 1960's childhood in the village to see new families having such a glorious time in our much loved family home.

Extra information

Sea and Mountain views 360 degree from rooftop balcony on Mountain house. There are five balconies with fantastic views. Lots of covered sheltered spots in the gardens. There are many steps on the property which backs onto the mountainside and thus is quite private although still retaining the feel of being within the village. The houses have original Cypriot design and furnishings as this has been our family home since 1963. There are many local paintings on the cottage walls done by the mother of the owner in the 1960's. God's airconditioning = The villas (at 300mASL) are in a river valley from the mountain above and thus get cool breezes in summer in the morning and evening making air conditioning unnecessary. There are fans in every bedroom and mosquito nets if desired.
