What to Do
Cape Verde is know for its wonderful unspoilt beaches, translucent seas and its lovely people with smiles as warm as the Cape Verdian sun.
However, there are lots of activities to do on the island.
A visit to the salt lakes, which are situated at Pedra De Lume are really worth a visit or take a look at the main capitol of Espargos.
If you like a bit of adventure, then hire a quad bike and visit one of the many sand dunes or beaches that the island has to offer. Other activities include wind surfing (the world championships are held on Sal), kite surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, deep sea fishing, sailing, catamaran trips, or whale/dolphin watching.
Car hire is available but as most activities are all within walking distance, the expense of a car is not necessary, taxis are plentiful and cheap.
Various organised trips are available for all the above activities.
We stayed in this lovely villa for 2 weeks during March of this year and had a wonderful holiday. The villa is very large, spacious and very nicely furnished. We particularly liked the peace and quite of its location, as well as the private pool that the kids loved. The villa had recently been fitted with water purifiers throughout, so we didn’t have to buy expensive water bottles and carry back, which was great. It also has full air-con in all rooms, which we needed, as it was very hot, even in March! Loads of hot water for baths and showers as the villa had solar heating. There were only a few English channels on the TV, but that didn’t matter as the kids took plenty of DVDs.
We loved the local coastal town of Santa Maria, which is just a few minutes taxi ride away. Silvino, the taxi driver recommended by the owners was brilliant, he collected us most nights from the villa and we even used him for an island tour as well. The resort also provides a shuttle bus that runs to Santa Maria several times a day and the cost for this was only 5 Euros per person for a week, which we used most days.
We thoroughly enjoyed going to the local Ponta Preta beach restaurant (pure white sandy beach), which is a pleasant 10 minute walk from the villa. The food there was great, as it was in all the local restaurants, very cheap as well. We preferred to use the restaurants in the town, as the one on the resort didn’t have the same atmosphere as the local ones.
The owner provides a very good “information pack”, recommending restaurants, things to do, supermarkets etc, which we found to be of great help during our stay.
This was one of the most relaxed holidays that we have ever had and we would have no hesitation in returning to the villa, possible in a couple of years time.

“Impressive Sal Island Villa!”
Back from 2 glorious weeks in the winter sun and the combination of an excellent modern Villa (just as described), a short walk to the local white sandy beaches (stretching for more miles than you will ever cover), and the quaint local town of Santa Maria (mixed in with the friendliness of the Cape Verdean people) has left us totally chilled from our "wintersun" holiday in Sal over the festive period.
If you love your water sports or just watching them, enjoy warm winds meeting the Atlantic waves, constantly dry hot weather, good local food/hospitality, and the simple charm of a relatively undeveloped island, then this is for you.
Being in a less economically developed area may mean experiencing some servicing issues from time to time but don’t let this put you off as overall the location is a gem of a place and the villa owners will do their utmost to support you to ensure you have a great time during your stay.
Will we return then? the answer is a definite yes !

“Fantastic winter sun holiday in luxury villa”
Firstly the information that is given by owners, Paul and Sandy, is great. There are comprehensive details about the villa, the surrounding area, taxi charges etc. There is a list of restaurants - their cuisine and prices making the choice in the evening very simple. There is even listed the name of a taxi driver and his number to you can book a taxi.
The villa itself surpassed our expectations. It is extremely comfortable with every mod con available. Small things like having plenty of glasses, cutlery, cups etc so you are not having to wash up all the time. The villa is furnished to a very high standard. The sun terrace outside is definitely a sun trap at all times of the day. The pool is great for cooling off in. We walked to the beach each day, the bar serves great salads. We ate out every night and always felt safe walking around Santa Maria in the evenings.
If you are looking for guaranteed sunshine, a no hassle holiday, in a very comfortable villa then this is the place for you. ZC

We had a great holiday with wall to wall sunshine. The villa was perfect for our needs and your tips were extremely useful in regard to eating places and, in particular, your taxi driver whom we found to be excellent and extremely prompt and reliable. We used him quite a lot. Presumably the recession has reduced the number of visitors but it did mean that the area was quiet and relaxing when we were in the villa. We would have no hesitation in recommending the villa and are very likely to return in the future, although perhaps next year.
Thank you for all your help and interest.
We recently stayed in this wonderful villa and had a great holiday. It was really spacious, brand new and had large terraces and balconies, with a nice private and enclosed garden and pool.
It has been tastefully furnished and everything you need is included. Although the resort was quiet when we were there, as it had only just opened, it suited us fine as we had a really peaceful and relaxing time.
The restaurants in Santa Maria were excellent and really good value and the resorts shuttle bus that takes you to the little town was very convenient. Will definately be back again next year. Mrs M Mowle.
About the owner
We, Paul and Sandy are the private owners of three properties in Cape Verde which consist of a Luxury Villa, Luxury Penthouse and a Luxury Apartment. We purchased them when we visited the island in 2008. We simply fell in love with the island and its people and decided that others would do the same! Now that we are both retired, we pride ourselves with the personal service that we are able to give to our clients.
