The Side of Samui You Might Not Know…

Our owner, Christina, tells us a bit about IslandView Villa near Chaweng, Koh Samui, and her favourite places to relax in the area.

Everybody knows that Koh Samui, Thailand, is a tropical island filled with palm trees and beaches – the place which inspired the iconic movie The Beach. Unfortunately, when many people think of Samui these days they immediately conjure up images of drunken Aussies stumbling down the main Chaweng entertainment strip. If you stay a bit out of the way, however – with some insider information – you’ll get a totally different experience.

STAY: IslandView Villa

Koh Samui

This villa pulls out all the stops. It’s a stunning six-bedroom luxury villa with a jaw-dropping infinity-edge pool, cinema, gym, bar, steam room, and all the home comforts and amenities you'd need. It’s located just three minutes drive from Chaweng, should you want to dip into the mayhem, but is far enough away from the main strip that you get to feel that totally tranquil island vibe – pure bliss.

And the best thing is that you don’t even have you rent out the whole house – you can just rent out a single room and you’ll still get the whole place to yourself (bargain!). Rooms start at 550 USD a night.

EAT: Anong

This unassuming little Thai joint has some of the best tom yum goong (spicy prawn soup) on the island. The setting, too, is totally authentic. Located just a two minute drive from IslandView Villa, Anong is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat on your way out, or before heading back to the villa to have a swim in the infinity-edge pool or relax in the automated recliner chairs with a film in the cinema room.

PAMPER: My Friend Massage

Sure there are lots of Thai massage shops all over Samui, but you only need to have one bad experience to be a little wary (anyone who doesn’t like toe-pulling knows this all too well!). My Friend Holiday Traditional Thai Massage, known just as My Friend, is a massage chain on the island where all of the masseuses are fully trained – the qualifications of each individual employee are proudly displayed on the walls of the shops. And what’s more, there’s one located just two minutes’ drive from IslandView Villa.
