Owner Interview: Christina tells us about Islandview Villa in Thailand
Christina Wylie and her father David own Islandview Villa in Thailand. Islandview is the epitome of luxury, and has it's own infinite pool, a home gym, spa, steam room AND private cinema! When can we go?! Over to Christina to tell us some more about her gorgeous holiday home...
Tell us a bit about your property and its location.
The house is a luxury, six-bedroom private villa with a cinema, bar, steam room, gym - the works. My favourite part of the house is definitely the poolside area, which has awesome 180-degree views of the sea and various parts of the island. The floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead out to it are fully extractable too, which means you can really get that whole tropical inside-outside vibe going on. Crack open a few coconuts (and a bottle of champagne?!) and you’re good to go!
Why do you love the area?
I love this area for so many reasons! It’s only a few minutes drive from the island’s main shopping, dining and entertainment district, but it’s also far enough away that you have total privacy and no noise. The property has totally undisturbed and sweeping panoramic sea views, which is just beautiful. I love to go for runs at sunrise and finish up at the beach before hopping in the pool for a morning swim. There’s no better way to start the day!
Who would you recommend this property to?
The property is great for basically everybody. Recently we’ve had a lot of interest from people who are coming to Samui for a destination wedding – it’s perfect for that! It’s also ideal for families because of the privacy factor. But it’s also good for couples because you can rent out one room and still have the whole place to yourself , even though you only pay for one room! Or you can get a group of friends together and rent out all six bedrooms.
Talk us through your routine for making sure your property is perfect for your guests when they arrive.
Because I don’t live there full time, it’s actually quite easy to imagine what people want when they arrive at Islandview – because I’m often in that position myself! Obviously timely airport pickup in an air-conditioned private car, welcoming staff, and a clean house with everything set up ready for you is paramount. The main thing that really impresses guests when they arrive is just that panoramic view - you walk into the house and you’re hit with the view over the infinity-edge pool and the sea beyond it. Once you see that you’re immediately in holiday mode.
Finally, give us a recommendation for either your favourite local spot!
It’s so hard to choose only one! I’d have to say Choeng Mon Beach. It’s just minutes from the house and is a really chilled out spot away from the main tourist beaches. It’s a great place to get some local food, and a Thai massage in a bamboo hut by the sea.
