1. My Mother's Daughters
This wonderful family-run restaurant in Largo de São Sebastião (opened by, you guessed it, a mother and her daughters) is a real treat for vegetarians. With no products from animals being used and some delicious choices such as Terra, fresh pesto and sauerkraut, you won’t go home hungry! This is one of the classics when it comes to vegetarian friendly restaurants in Lisbon. Running for over 14 years in Alameda Santo António dos Capuchos, this beautiful restaurant comes with a sweet duckpond in the gardens complete with carp and even turtles! The menu is Thai and Italian inspired, with some favourite dishes including mango ceviches, seitan ‘meatballs’ and warm chickpea falafel salads. Located in the ultra-trendy area of Cais do Sodré, Terra is a vegetarian restaurant in Lisbon that’s well-worth visiting. With a lovely outdoor area to enjoy the sunshine while you eat, Terra is known for making traditional Portuguese dishes and reinventing them for a vegetarian market. Sitting and enjoying some of the best food in Lisbon, you’ll also notice that the décor has some beautiful additions that have been collected by the owners from all over the world, creating a wonderful calm atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing with friends as you fill your belly!
4. Os Tibetanos
Found in the Príncipe Real area, this amazing restaurant will make even the most ardent meat-fan think twice! Going strong for 35 years and claimed to be the first vegetarian restaurant in Lisbon, the theme and style surrounds Tibetan culture. It’s well-loved for its wonderfully peaceful ambience and the must try dish is the nepalese momos, delightful bundles of cheese and spinach. There’s also a shop on site where you’ll find lovely Tibetan trinkets and gifts, we highly recommend.
5. Ao 26
If you’re in Chiado you must try out Ao 26. From beetroot burgers to delicious vegan cheese and the astoundingly good fruit tart, there’s not much not to like! The interior is also light and airy, making it an ideal lunch time stop as you explore another trendy area of Lisbon. You’ll also find some lovely organic wines on offer as well as a splendid cheeseboard, so make sure you've allowed enough time to sit back and appreciate it!
