Villa overview - owner's description

The Landmark House and Cottage is a serene and vibrant haven offering a hidden world of unique style, infused with natural and local charm, a tropical retreat within majestic grounds set on one of the island's most prestigious beaches.

Guests will be greeted into a world of sedate tranquillity and uniquely natural glamour. A far cry from the buzzing resorts and glitterati-filled hot-spots, Landmark House combines the best local raw materials, architectural verve and interiors grace. Entering this home is akin to stepping into a luscious oasis of swaying palms and fragrant plant life where the indoors and outdoors interplay delightfully.

Made up of local coral stone, the interiors offers a nod to traditional Bajan style; with cool marble and uncarpeted floors, exposed white-washed timber ceilings and the hallmark large, covered dining verandas, this home is brimming with local charm and well as its own unique quirks.

Dining outside, with the rustle of the breeze in the palms and sounds of the ocean is a mystical experience; at one with nature and faithful to traditional Bajan life, this home is mindful of local tradition, and guests won't be able to resist its restful tones. An outdoor lounge is as refined as it gets, with sumptuous, cream sofas and elegant dining set amid the sounds of nature.

Landmark House is ideal for re-centring, wellness and rejuvenation away from the bustle of the crowds and demands of urban life. Exclusive, yet not pretentious, the bedrooms are finessed with the quality of a boutique hotel; quality cotton bedlinen, designer lighting, direct garden or balcony access and gilded framed art make for sedate abodes. Even the bathrooms fail to disappoint; exposed local stone and sunken free-standing tub make for a mellow yet stylish bathing experience with the sounds of the outdoors offering a tropical jungle feel!

In the main house there are four luxury air-conditioned suites, three on the ground floor level and one on the first floor, each with its own private bathroom. The separate cottage is a unique add-on; a fairy tale style treehouse structure with lattice-work mesh sides and slatted shutters, offering a characteristically local wicker lounge set and two delightful double bedrooms. Landmark House and Cottage comes with a full staff offering, to make for a truly pampering experience: cook, butler and maid, to name a few.

A charismatic home, Landmark House and Cottage is authentically Bajan, brimming with local flavour, as well as twist of designer flair and five-star finesse for something rather special.

Landmark House and Cottage is nestled in a premium position in the very exclusive West Coast of Barbados, also known as the “platinum coast” for its pristine beaches and turquoise waters. Despite this region being developed with high-end hotels and stately private residences to an international jet-set, its coast remains one of the most beautiful Barbados has to offer. With the recent development of extensive boardwalks, visitors can enjoy spectacular sunset strolls with the glittering sea as their companion.

The Sandy Lane Hotel is an iconic spot drawing a star-studded clientele, whilst Sandy Lane Beach in St James is one of the region's finest beaches. Ideal for swimming, and snorkelling, tropical sea life and sea turtles can be spotted, whilst opportunities for kayaking and paddle boarding are abundant.

Landmark House is ideally positioned, offering both tranquil seclusion as well as being within walking distance to the prestigious Sandy Lane Golf Course and the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre which comprises upscale boutiques, spas and fine dining.

In contrast, a visit to the historical Holetown will offer a taste of local flavour. The Chattel village has a more artisanal flavour, offering local crafts, art and jewellery. The Chattel houses offer a striking contrast to the colonial residences with their dazzling white coral facades and open verandas; the former are vividly coloured with fancy gables and gingerbread fretwork. The Chattel houses date back to plantation days; the small wooden shacks were designed to be movable, yet this didn't limit their decorative charm; finished in candy pinks and pistachio greens with pretty shutters and sloping roofs.

Within close proximity to Landmark House, visitors can enjoy the fine culinary art at Tides Restaurant for something a little special, or Zaccios for informal pizza lunches with the kids. The west coast offers everything from rum cocktails at the bar to Thai cuisine or local Bajan fare. A culinary experience here takes influences from African, Caribbean, West Indian and European gastronomy for something a little unique. Known for its rum tradition, started circa 370 years ago, the island is brimming with tours of the world's oldest rum.

Barbados is a place of contrasts, from movie-star hedonism to cane-cutting village life and artisanal fare; from fishing villages to dramatic, rugged Atlantic coastlines - visitors will enjoy a vivacious diversity within a very accessibly-sized island. A unique blend of vibrant, local life and colonial-influenced afternoon teas alongside cricket matches on the green!
