Antigua is the heart and soul of the Caribbean, an exotic tropical island with an abundance of palm-fringed beaches, warm sparkling sea, English-speaking and life-loving locals, a wealth of land and water based activities, a huge choice of delicious international cuisines, and a background soundtrack of calypso and reggae.
The island is about 14 miles long by 11 miles wide and is renowned for its 365 stunning beaches, miles of picturesque coves, its legendary Sailing and Carnival Weeks, a profound love of cricket, cooling trade winds and ample sunshine.
Antigua is the perfect destination for sun-worshippers, water sports enthusiasts, golfers, and food-lovers.
Antigua has a rich history and heritage and this is reflected in its architecture and customs. The restored Nelsons Dockyard at English Harbour is a prime example of this and sugar mills and plantation houses dot the island. Inland towards the southwest is an unspoiled rainforest interspersed with picturesque villages, and the view from Shirley Heights is one of the Caribbeans greatest.
We enjoyed the apartment very much and it was spacious for the four of us. Robert who looks after it was very helpful. The washing machine has not been working for awhile and I think it needs to be sorted but in Antigua I know this is very hard! Robert did our washing on 2 occasions which was great. The only thing we were not that happy with was the distance to Jolly Harbour-it was at least a 20 minute walk to the beach and over 10 mins to the supermarket-its a long hot walk back with lots of heavy shopping and children along a rather dodgy road. I would say a car is nearly essential.
Overall, the apartment was very good-well equiped, had smart and plentiful linen, was well laid out and beautifully cool. Nice pool and gardens too.
Thank you Lynn for your review. A new washing machine is now installed. Getting parts on the island was impossible - despite our best efforts! I suspect you didnt find the direct track to the beach (about 50 yards past our entrance - approx 13 mins in total). With the time you encountered you must have gone via Jolly Harbour Resort. The walk to the supermarket does mean walking along the road as there is no footpath adjacent - this is typical in Antigua. I totally agree, a car is a great asset. Not just for local journeys but for exploring the rest of the island and its 365 beaches. In the absence of a car, and if you have young children, I would recommend using the local taxis for trips to the supermarket. They are quite inexpensive for such a short journey. I am pleased that overall you were very happy with our apartment. I will pass on you positive comments to Robert.

Thank you for all your help and we would certainly recommend Hamilton House to our friends.
The apartment was perfect, really spacious and clean, with everything you could need! Breakfast on the balcony was lovely in the morning with a fab view. We had a very warm and informative welcome, with a tour of the local area which was very useful, and the taxi driver was nothing less than fantastic! The nearest beaches were in our opinion the best on the island, with lovely cafes and restaurants all nearby. Thanks so much, we will definately recommend this apartment to friends and family!
